Doesn’t everything begin with imagination? Before we become someone, we imagine who that person might be. We construct an idea of ourselves, then spend our lives shaping reality around—or against—that idea. In that sense, perhaps we are all fictional characters: beings partly authored by ourselves, living inside the realist simulation we call reality. The difference is, our fiction has consequences.
