I know… reading research is boring.
I also know this post probably won’t get as many likes or views as videos of me chasing, bouncing or dancing with our little superheroes.
At Brain Body Balance, we don’t use tools because they are fashionable. We use them because there is emerging research suggesting they support the brain and nervous system.
Photobiomodulation (red and near-infrared light) is one of those tools.
Published research has reported improvements in areas such as irritability, social awareness, communication and repetitive behaviours in some children with autism. Other studies suggest it may support mitochondrial function, reduce neuroinflammation and improve functional brain connectivity.
Is it a cure? No.
Is more high-quality research still needed? Absolutely.
But science doesn’t move forward by waiting until every question has been answered. It moves forward because researchers continue to investigate promising therapies while clinicians carefully observe what happens in the real world.
The same is true for mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. No research paper can fully capture what it feels like when a parent says, “He’s sleeping through the night,” or “She looked at me when I called her name,” or “He spoke for the first time.”
Those moments matter.
My hope is that, as the evidence continues to grow, more families will have access to these therapies alongside conventional care, and more children will have the opportunity to benefit.
Until then, I’ll keep doing what I’ve always done:
Read and share the science. Follow the evidence. Keep learning. And always put the children first. 🙏
