Fairymarraine Story - Interview with Jeremy Teng, 27, university student.
1) Have you felt terrible for being unfit? If yes, what is the most unforgettable event that has happened?
Yep. I started gaining weight in primary school where I was part of the school choir. We got our performing costumes months in advance, and on the day of our performance I realized I couldn't fit into mine. When I told my teacher about it, she yelled at me, "Why are you so fat?!" This hurt my self-esteem quite a bit.
2)What is your exercise and diet routine?
When I couldn't run I started walking on a steep incline on the treadmill twice daily for 30-40 minutes each session. Soon enough I was able to run, and I was running 5-8km, every day as much as I could. Diet wise, I'm pretty much an incorrigible foodie lol so I do indulge quite a bit sometimes. But when I was trying to lose weight I made minor changes to my diet such as having less carbs (rice etc), and whenever I do indulge I try to pay back as much through exercise 😂
3)What is your biggest investment/sacrifice so far to achieve this fitness level?
I think my biggest sacrifice is just lots and lots of time. I was spending most of my waking hours on exercise and I think that was why I was able to lose so much weight in such a short time.
4)What are the observations since you became fitter/healthier?
When I was obese, I felt very lethargic all the time to the point I was dozing off at work and even breathing so hard under normal circumstances that friends and colleagues around would ask me if I was okay. Now having lost weight, I feel much more energized and confident of myself. Having lost almost half my weight, I also now know that it's always been in me to be able to do the impossible.
