Hard, tender or painful breast? It may be engorgement, ductal narrowing or mastitis, and the right approach can be quite different.

A few key reminders:
• Engorgement is usually more widespread
• A “blocked duct” is often inflammation and narrowing, not a solid plug
• Deep painful massage may worsen swelling
• More pumping is not always better
• Fever alone does not automatically mean bacterial mastitis
• Worsening redness, severe pain, persistent fever or feeling very unwell needs medical assessment

Breastfeeding can often continue, but the feeding plan should match your milk supply, comfort and clinical situation.

At EMW, lactation and TCM support is used alongside appropriate breastfeeding and medical care, not as a replacement when infection or abscess is suspected.

Save this for later and share it with a breastfeeding mum who may need it. 💛

Trying to conceive naturally? Timing matters, but it’s not about chasing one “perfect” ovulation day. 🌿

Your fertile window is generally the 5 days before ovulation plus the day of ovulation, and some of the highest-chance days actually occur before the egg is released.

In this carousel, we cover 7 practical facts about the fertile window, including:

> Why ovulation does not always happen on Day 14
> How often to have in*******se during the fertile window
> What cervical mucus can tell you
> How to use ovulation predictor kits
> Why period-tracking apps are helpful but not perfect
> When BBT is useful
> Why combining several fertility signs may give a clearer picture

The goal is not to make TTC more stressful. It is to understand your cycle well enough to give yourselves good coverage without feeling that everything depends on one single day.

If your cycles are very irregular, ovulation is unclear, or you have been trying for some time without success, it may be worth looking beyond timing alone and assessing the broader fertility picture for both partners.

At EMW TCM, we support couples trying for natural conception with an individual fertility assessment, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine where appropriate, alongside evidence-based cycle tracking and medical evaluation when needed.

A normal semen analysis does not always tell the whole story.

Semen analysis measures s***m count, concentration, movement and shape, but it does not directly assess the integrity of the DNA carried by s***m.

S***m DNA fragmentation may be discussed when couples experience:

• Recurrent unexplained miscarriage
• Unexplained infertility
• Unexpected fertilisation or embryo-development problems
• Repeated disappointing IVF or ICSI outcomes
• Relevant male risk factors, such as varicocele, smoking, recent fever or increasing paternal age

However, s***m DNA fragmentation testing is not routinely required for every couple starting fertility treatment. Results should be interpreted together with the couple’s full fertility history, semen analysis, female fertility factors and previous treatment outcomes.

Swipe through for 7 important facts about s***m DNA fragmentation and IVF.

Is your child easily startled, hesitant to try new things, or constantly seeking reassurance? 💧

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), these emotional and behavioural patterns may sometimes be associated with an imbalance in the Water element. Other possible signs include:

• Shyness in unfamiliar places
• Low confidence or giving up easily
• Frequent bedwetting or urination
• Cold hands and feet
• Difficulty getting deep, restful sleep
• Slower growth and development

When the Water element is well supported, a child may feel calmer, more secure and emotionally grounded—with greater confidence, age-appropriate independence, stronger learning abilities and better-quality sleep.

Every child is different, and these signs should always be considered as part of their overall health and development.

Concerned about your child’s wellbeing? Book a paediatric TCM consultation with EMW to learn how we may support them through gentle, personalised care. 💙

You conceived before, so why is getting pregnant again taking longer this time?

This is known as secondary infertility, and it can feel especially confusing because a previous pregnancy often makes couples assume fertility should remain the same.

But a lot can change between pregnancies.

Age and ovarian reserve may have shifted. Endometriosis or adenomyosis may become more relevant. Fibroids, polyps or fallopian-tube problems can develop. Male fertility can change too. And once you have a young child, sleep, schedules and the frequency or timing of in*******se may look very different.

Most importantly, having conceived naturally before does 𝙣𝙤𝙩 mean you should delay seeking help if pregnancy is taking longer than expected.

👉 Swipe through the 7 points to understand what may contribute to secondary infertility and when it may be worth arranging a fertility evaluation.

Ni**le pain while breastfeeding is common, but it should not simply be something you “push through.” 🤍

Persistent, sharp, burning or worsening pain may be linked to latch, ni**le trauma, pump fit, engorgement, inflammation or other breast conditions.

A proper assessment should look at both mother and baby, including latch, milk transfer, breast swelling and pumping technique.

Seek medical review if pain comes with fever, significant redness, swelling, discharge, a persistent lump or severe ni**le damage.

A poor response in one IVF cycle can feel discouraging, especially when you have already been on a high dose of stimulation medication.

But 𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐠𝐠 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐀𝐌𝐇 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲.

What matters is understanding the full picture: your AMH and AFC, how many follicles responded, how many eggs were retrieved and mature, fertilisation, embryo development, previous ovarian surgery or endometriosis, and how your ovaries responded in earlier cycles.

There is also no single “best” IVF protocol for every patient with a lower response. Your previous cycle gives your fertility specialist useful information to help plan what may be adjusted next.

At EMW TCM, we position acupuncture and TCM as 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐈𝐕𝐅 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. We do not claim to create new eggs, reverse diminished ovarian reserve or guarantee more follicles. Instead, our focus is on supporting your broader health, menstrual wellbeing, sleep and stress regulation while working around your IVF timeline.

If you have experienced a disappointing egg retrieval, it may be worth reviewing the cycle carefully rather than focusing only on the final egg number.

Why do we include Spinal Pinching (捏脊) in almost every paediatric tuina visit? 🌿

捏脊 is a gentle paediatric tuina technique performed along the child’s back. In TCM, it is commonly used as a foundational technique to support the child’s overall constitution.

Depending on your child’s presentation, it may help to:

✨ Strengthen the body’s constitution and support immunity
😴 Promote relaxation and better sleep quality
🍚 Support healthy digestion and a balanced appetite
🌱 Encourage regular and healthy bowel movements

Each session is adapted according to your child’s age, comfort level and current needs.

Looking for gentle, natural support for your child’s well-being? Contact us to learn more about paediatric tuina at EMW TCM. 💙

Every IVF cycle can bring a different outcome.

After a biochemical pregnancy from her first frozen embryo transfer, followed by an unsuccessful second transfer, this patient began preparing for her next attempt with EMW.

Regular acupuncture, together with personalised dietary and lifestyle guidance, became part of her preparation over two menstrual cycles. During her third FET cycle, she completed five acupuncture sessions alongside her medical treatment.

In December 2024, one blastocyst was transferred and it resulted in a successful pregnancy. Today, her little one is almost one! 💙

This case highlights how integrative TCM care may complement fertility treatment by supporting the body, uterine environment and overall wellbeing throughout the FET journey.

If you are looking for a personalised way to complement your IVF journey, we are here to support you every step of the way.

Egg quality is influenced by many factors, including age, genetics, lifestyle and overall reproductive health. Acupuncture cannot guarantee better egg quality, but it may help support the environment in which follicles develop.

Real stories. Real hope. Real joy. 🤍

Every fertility journey is different. Some begin with natural conception support, while others involve IUI, IVF, setbacks, waiting, courage, and many small steps forward.

Our EMW Fertility Graduates page celebrates the families who have kindly allowed us to share part of their journey. Their stories are a reminder that fertility care is never just about treatment. It is also about feeling supported, understood, and less alone along the way.

We are deeply grateful to every family who has trusted us to walk beside them. 🌿

Morning sickness can feel worrying, especially when it is persistent 🤢🤍

However, it is actually very common!

Nausea during pregnancy is often linked to hormonal sensitivity and can vary greatly between individuals. The severity of symptoms does not reflect pregnancy health.

Every pregnancy experience is different 🌸🤰

Extreme fatigue in early pregnancy is very common and it does not mean your body is failing 🤍🤰

In the first trimester, the body undergoes rapid hormonal and physiological changes to support pregnancy. This internal adjustment requires significant energy, even if physical activity is reduced.

Feeling exhausted is often a sign of adaptation, not weakness. Rest plays an important role during this stage 🛌🌿
