🚒 A Saturday Morning at the Fire Station!

Our residents from ECON @ Henderson had a fun Saturday morning while visiting the SCDF Fire Station Open House. From getting a closer look at the emergency vehicles to learning about the protective gear and equipment used by firefighters, the visit gave our residents an opportunity to discover and better understand the people and work behind Singapore’s emergency services.

One of the highlights was getting to try the water hose under the guidance of the firefighters — an experience that brought plenty of smiles and excitement to the morning! 💦🚒

Outings like these create opportunities for our residents to stay curious, discover something new and remain connected to the wider community.

A big thank you to the firefighters at Alexandra Fire Station for warmly accommodating our residents, sharing their knowledge and making the visit such an engaging and enjoyable experience.

Project V - Bringing Stories to Life: Behind the Scenes 🎥

Through National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre’s (NVPC) Project V, we have been working with volunteers from Adrenalin Group on the Legacy Building Project, where our seniors’ life stories are being captured through a series of short documentary-style videos.

But some of the sweetest moments happened when the cameras were not rolling: a spontaneous singalong to ‘Country Roads’ with Mr Wong, going through travel photos and hearing the stories shared by Isabel, as well as plenty of laughter, chats and little moments of connection in-between takes.

It has been lovely watching the volunteers and seniors get to know one another beyond the interviews - sharing memories, discovering common interests and simply enjoying each other’s company.

A big thank you to and National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre for making this meaningful collaboration possible. Here’s a little peek behind the scenes while we wait to see all these stories come together on-screen. 📷

Stay tuned for the final documentary! 🎬

Sun, Sand & Sea at Changi Beach Park ☀️🏖️🌴

Our seniors from ELH@SKG recently spent a lovely morning at Changi Beach Park, enjoying the sea breeze, taking in the peaceful surroundings and learning more about the rich history of the area.

💡 Did you know? The striking hand sculpture is named ‘Inscription of the Island’. Created by Singapore artist Lim Soo Ngee, it depicts the remains of an imagined colossal statue that once stood pointing vessels into Singapura’s port - a little touch of storytelling and imagination by the sea.

As they walked along the heritage trail, the outing sparked memories and conversations about Singapore’s past. Stories were exchanged, familiar sights brought back fond recollections, and there was plenty of laughter and companionship along the way.

And of course, no morning is quite complete without a good meal together! The group ended their stroll over a hearty brunch, catching up and enjoying one another’s company around the table.

More than a walk, it was a morning of shared memories, new discoveries and simple moments together. Here’s to many more adventures, conversations and memories together!

Happy World Physiotherapy Day!

Celebrating the people behind the progress, while making space for connection, creativity and a little play along the way. 🎨

A little throwback to our recent clay sculpting session, where our rehabilitation team had the chance to get creative and enjoy some well-deserved time together. Amid the controlled mess-making came plenty of laughter and light-hearted moments, offering everyone a chance to unwind after a busy period.

The session also opened up space for more personal sharing, with each clay creation reflecting something meaningful about its maker — giving colleagues a fun and thoughtful way to learn more about one another.

Today, we celebrate our physiotherapists – their personalities, their stories, and their motivations that keep them at the important work they do to support recovery, movement and quality of life.

From Harvest to Handrolls 🌱

Our hydroponics programme gives residents a meaningful way to stay active, involved and connected.

Since their previous Nai Bai harvest, residents have been able to experience and learn from different stages of the growing journey. This time, freshly harvested lettuce became part of a fun handroll-making workshop by City Sprouts.

Residents cut their own ingredients, chose their fillings and made their own handrolls — simple, hands-on steps that encouraged participation, fine motor movement and plenty of smiles and conversation.

A heartfelt thank you to City Sprouts for such an engaging session. We look forward to more of such purposeful and enjoyable experiences for our residents.

Our thanks to the NYP volunteers for being part of this experience and sharing their time and warmth with our residents.

Discovering New Joys Together 🌿🎨

Our ECONLife! Hub (ELH) @ Sengkang seniors came together to discover new interests, build friendships and enjoy meaningful experiences beyond their usual routines.

During the “Herbal Touch, Artistic Heart” workshop, they explored the scents, textures and everyday uses of different herbs before transforming the leaves into colourful prints on wooden storage boxes. It was a wonderful opportunity to try something new, express their creativity and enjoy the simple pleasure of fun activities alongside friends.

At ELH, activities like these make active ageing more meaningful by creating opportunities for seniors to continue learning, form meaningful connections and experience the joy of trying something new in a warm and supportive environment.

Small Ways to Make Every Day Better for Seniors

Previously, we shared how good nutrition can support seniors’ everyday well-being. Beyond eating well, there are many simple ways we can help seniors stay active, engaged and connected each day.

Active ageing doesn’t have to be something seniors do alone – that's where Active Ageing Centres (AACs) come in. Having a supportive community can make it easier and more enjoyable to stay active, learn new things and build meaningful connections. Through our AAC – ECONLife! Hub @ Sengkang, seniors can take part in activities and programmes that encourage them to stay engaged and connected within their community. Swipe right to find out how our seniors are ageing actively!

Little Pebbles, Lasting Moments 🌵

Our residents at ECON Healthcare Henderson spent a lovely afternoon creating colourful pebble cactus art with volunteers from ST Engineering Synthesis.

With the materials thoughtfully prepared beforehand, the volunteers patiently guided residents through each step, helping them with the decorating while keeping the session lively and engaging.

Residents painted their pebbles with their favourite colours and patterns before adding cute pompoms to bring each cactus to life. The activity encouraged creativity, self-expression and plenty of shared smiles.

The connection continued even after the activity was completed, as the volunteers stayed to chat with our residents, listen to their stories and share in light-hearted conversations. These simple moments of companionship brought warmth to the afternoon and made the experience especially meaningful.

The completed pebble cacti were later placed in the garden, adding colours to the surroundings for residents, staff and visitors to enjoy. They also serve as a lovely reminder of the time spent creating together.

Our heartfelt appreciation to the volunteers from ST Engineering Synthesis for your thoughtful preparation, patience and genuine care in making our residents feel engaged, supported and valued.

Growing and Going Green🌱

Sharing some memorable moments from the School of Engineering (SEG) Community Learning Fest @ Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) 2026, where our seniors from ELH@SKG enjoyed a meaningful day of learning, discovery and connection.

During the programme, they visited the SEG NATURE Greenhouse and learned how innovative urban farming practices can support environmental sustainability. They also took part in a hands-on microgreens planting workshop conducted by Green Loop Farm, gaining practical experience in growing nutritious produce and understanding the farm-to-fork journey.

With the guidance of NYP staff and student coaches, our seniors had the opportunity to harvest and pack fresh produce from the greenhouse. The experience gave them a deeper appreciation of the effort, technology and sustainable practices involved in food production, and they were delighted to bring home the produce they had packed themselves.

The experience remains a meaningful reminder that active ageing is enriched through lifelong learning, new discoveries and continued participation in the community.

Thank you to the School of Engineering at Nanyang Polytechnic and Green Loop Farm for creating such a warm and enriching experience for our seniors.
