Making history!
Walking Football for YOUTHS?

Who says the young can’t play walking football - the "slow" game? 🧠⚽

We are smashing stereotypes with this incredible collaboration between
Walking Football4Health Global (WaF4H) and Salaam Sports SG!

In line with our and Multigenerational Walking Football mission first spearheaded in 2016, we brought WALKING FOOTBALL to the YOUTHS—and the results were mind-blowing. 🤯

The Challenge:
We asked them to walk, not run.
For players full of energy, you’d think this would be torture.
Instead? They dominated with focus and finesse. It turns out, keeping your feet planted forces you to use your brain more!

The Strategy:
This isn't a game of speed; it's a game of chess on pitch. 🧩 The youths realized that to win, you have to out-think your opponent, not outrun them. It’s intelligent play, patience and precision.

The Verdict from the Youths:
"Now the whole family can play walking football together!" 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

This is proof that walking football bridges generations. Whether you are 16/20 or 70, we can all share the same pitch.

Thank you to our partners at Salaam Sports SG - Ms Haira, Founder & Team Salaam Sports SG, Mr Khairul of Berita Harian & WaF4H's very own, Dr Dee Dee Mahmood and Team Waf4H consisting of Coach Zhari, WiWi, Muzz, David, Samad, Amir Shah, Boy Bard, Mamu Maldini, Capt Ismail, Fad, Zamri, Hakim, Coach Zakirah, Yatini, Dinah, Kak Y, Amilah and supporting are Rozzal, Ita, Sani Boy & Masuri) for making this multigenerational walking football magic happen!

It was a night filled with smiles and strategied-quick witted movements.
And the creativity of it is such a joy to watch!

Thank you Amilah for these photos.

A Celebration of Unity & Health at Walking Football4Health Global

What an amazing Sunday turnout, WaF4Hs! The energy in Sunday's walking football session was absolutely electric—a perfect testament to everything our community stands for.

The Beautiful Tapestry of WaF4H:
Walking across the pitch at Bedok Green Secondary School, you could see it all: players of all ages, from those still in their prime to seniors playing this beautiful game of walking football. All races, all backgrounds, all experience levels—from beginners learning the no-running rule to seasoned players showcasing their skills. Yet everyone moved as one .

The camaraderie was palpable. Laughter echoed across the field, teammates cheered each other on, and complete strangers became friends through the simple act of passing a ball. This is the family atmosphere that defines WaF4H—a happy place where positivity flows as freely as the movement .

The Science Behind the Smiles:
This isn't just fun and games—the research backs up exactly what we experienced.

Physiological Power: Studies by Drs Dr Dee Dee Mahmood, Heil & Newton since 2017 with the WaF4H research team have demonstrated that match-play walking football consistently exceeds the 3.0 MET threshold for metabolic intensity, with cardiovascular intensity easily surpassing 65% of maximum heart rate across diverse populations—women's teams, men's teams, and mixed-gender groups playing on different surfaces across Singapore, London, and Perth . This means while you're bonding and having fun, your body is reaping genuine moderate-to-vigorous exercise benefits.

Mental Wellbeing: Qualitative research has shown walking football delivers significant mental health benefits—participants report enhanced self-confidence, a sense of purpose, the chance to disengage from negative thoughts, and improved social connections . Walking football significantly improved mental wellbeing, resilience, and exercise self-efficacy .

Social Cohesion: The social benefits mirror what we see every Sunday. A study on team-building found that cooperative learning approaches—exactly what happens when you bring all ages, races, and skill levels together—produce significant increases in both task cohesion and social cohesion . The WaF4H research team documented that metabolic and cardiovascular intensities remain clinically meaningful, the walking cadence—the directional changes, ball handling, and accelerations create unique physiological demands .

Safety for All: The narrative review published in BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine confirms walking football is safe for diverse populations, including those with chronic conditions. Studies found it safe for individuals with Type 2 diabetes, prostate cancer patients, those with dementia, and hypertensive men aged 60-70 .

More Than a Game
As WaF4H Founder Dr. Dee Dee Mahmood envisions since 2016, this movement transcends sport—it's a research initiative fostering inclusivity and promoting health across all spectrums, regardless of age, gender, language, or religion .

Today's session proved it again. From the young learning from the experienced, to the seniors finding new purpose, to the bonds forming across cultures—this is walking football at its finest.

If you can walk, you can play walking football. And at WaF4H, we play together. 🌟⚽💙
