We kick off our Pain Annual Scientific Meeting 2026 with a series of talks on Migraines: Treatment Overview, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Perspective. The highlight was a 6-member panel discussion on "Tech Neck in an Increasingly Digital World", followed by talks on Pain Reprocessing Therapy, Platelet Rich Plasma, and Innovations in Physiotherapy. We rounded off with our pre-workshop technical lectures for the Pain Intervention Workshop. This is the first Pain Association Singapore x Academy of Medicine Singapore 🤝 Scientific Meeting, and we hope for more fruitful collaborations in future.

An insightful read on pain control in older persons!

The book chapter, “Pain Control in the Older Person”, is co-authored by Dr. Ashutosh Joshi, Senior Consultant, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital Singapore and Ms. Thuy Bui, Lead Pharmacist – Analgesic Stewardship (AGS) & Perioperative Services, Alfred Health, Melbourne, Australia.

As Singapore moves toward becoming a super-aged society by 2026—with at least 21% of the population aged 65 or older—and by 2030, one in four Singaporeans in this age group, geriatric pain management is more important than ever.

Key insights from the chapter:
✅ Chronic pain is common and often under-treated in older adults, impacting quality of life and increasing risks of falls, frailty, and cognitive decline.
✅ Barriers include misconceptions (e.g., pain as “normal aging”), cognitive impairment, polypharmacy, and provider knowledge gaps.
✅ Multimodal strategies work best—combining non-drug approaches (exercise, CBT) with tailored pharmacological and interventional techniques to minimize side effects.
✅ Regular review and individualized care are essential, considering comorbidities, organ function, and patient goals.

This year’s Pain Camp, organised by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), was filled with learning, laughter, and lots of heart. From inspiring talks and hands-on activities to heartfelt conversations, it was truly special!
