38 years ago, Fr Jean Nguyen — known to many as Fr John Van Dich — was ordained a priest. But his path there began far from any sanctuary. Fleeing persecution in his native Vietnam, Fr Jean endured great suffering to escape (twice!), eventually finding refuge in France — and there, against every hardship, he answered God's call to the priesthood.

What the world meant for harm, God shaped into a life of grace.
Happy 38th Sacerdotal Anniversary, Fr JVD!

Join us in honouring him — leave your wishes and prayers for Fr JVD in the comments.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This year, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary falls on Saturday, 15 August 2026. Both this Solemnity and the following Sunday, 16 August, are holy days of obligation within our region.

For pastoral reasons, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei – in consultation with the Episcopal Regional Liturgy Commission – has transferred the celebration of the Solemnity of the Assumption to Sunday, 16 August 2026.

Therefore, the Masses on this weekend will celebrate the Assumption, fulfilling your holy day of obligation.

Wishing you the Lord’s abundant blessings.
