We're thrilled to share highlights from our second Arts Resource Hub & Changi General Hospital (CGH) collaborative panel workshop, supported by the National Arts Council Singapore, held on 14 April 2026. The session focused on 'Practical Strategies for Safe Rehabilitation and Return to Performance,' bridging the gap between clinical care and artistic practice. It was inspiring to see a dynamic community of performing artists, healthcare professionals, and educators come together for an evening of shared narratives and insightful dialogue.
Dr. Lim Ang Tee, Sports & Exercise Medicine Senior Consultant at SSMC@Novena, delivered compelling insights into the healthcare challenges unique to performing artists. His presentation highlighted how performers face athletic-level physical demands yet often lack comparable medical support. The DIVA screening protocol he introduced provides a comprehensive framework for artist health assessment, emphasising that successful return to performance requires complete restoration of both physical capability and artistic confidence.
Ms. Belinda Foo brought remarkable perspective to our discussion, drawing from her distinguished 35-year career as composer and music director, her current role as LASALLE College of the Arts lecturer, and her achievements as a competitive Masters athlete. Her candid sharing of personal injury experiences - including disc complications, muscle tears, and fractures - offered authentic insights into the rehabilitation journey. Her emphasis on building comprehensive healthcare support networks provided valuable guidance that resonated deeply with the audience.
Ms. Lam Yat Sau, Senior Physiotherapist at CGH, demonstrated the athletic nature of performing arts through engaging practical assessments. Her live demonstrations of performance readiness tests, including balance evaluations and movement assessments, equipped participants with concrete tools for both personal and professional application.
We also injected some extra fun into the session with an interactive bingo game that added a fun twist to learning, with participants eagerly spotting key terms throughout the presentations and a lucky few even walked away with prizes for completing their cards!
The Q&A that followed generated a rich dialogue on the complexities of recovery, showcasing an impressive breadth of understanding across the performing arts community.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all participants and speakers for contributing to such a meaningful evening. This ongoing partnership helps us stay tuned into the needs of our artists and provide the kind of healthcare that actually makes a difference in helping them stay in the game.
Do keep a lookout for our next collaborative workshop in September 2026!
