Meet Yu Jie, our Senior Occupational Therapist. Yu Jie graduated with honours in Occupational Therapy from the Singapore Institute of Technology and is a fully registered Occupational Therapist and Clinical Supervisor under AHPC Singapore, with 5 years of experience supporting children aged 2 to 18. She is trained in Sensory Integration Therapy, DIR Floortime, and trauma-sensitive practice, and provides individualised support across home, school, and community settings, tailored to each child's needs.

Parents, you are not alone. Toileting sometimes takes a team.

If you’re in the middle of toilet training and wondering, “Why is this so hard?” — please know that you’re not failing, and your child isn’t failing either.

For children with learning needs, toileting can involve so much more than simply learning where to go. It can involve understanding body signals, communicating their needs, managing sensory experiences and building a consistent routine.

And you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

When he first came to us at 3 years old, he was non-verbal. Today, seeing him confidently read and make sense of simple sentences is a beautiful reminder of just how far he has come.

Progress doesn’t always happen overnight. Sometimes, it’s months and years of tiny steps, patient teaching, countless moments of encouragement, and celebrating every little milestone along the way.

And then one day… you look back and realise just how far they’ve come. 🥹❤️

One of the most common tips we share with parents is this: communication isn't about getting children to repeat words—it's about helping them understand, connect, and express themselves with confidence.

Here are 5 simple phrase swaps you can start using today:
- Model the words instead of asking for repetition.
- Comment more, question less.
- Put words to your child's message.
- Acknowledge every communication attempt.
- Offer choices while modelling the language.

These small changes can make everyday interactions feel more natural, engaging, and supportive for your child's communication development.

Celebrating Racial Harmony Day at The Grounds Therapy! ❤️🌏
Our little ones came dressed in beautiful traditional outfits representing the many cultures that make Singapore so special. The children also created friendship keychains—a small keepsake to remind them that kindness, respect, and friendship bring us together, no matter our differences.

"It's just playing." Only it is not. It is a medium to build connection, social skills, and language.

🗺️ Hunting for hidden treasure.
🦜 Going on exciting adventures.

Underneath every game, our speech therapists are modelling language, following the child's lead, and creating moments where communication feels meaningful. Interaction is sustained and enjoyable for the child.

Notice that there are some beautiful gestalts and some unintelligible utterances. It does not matter. Our speech therapist simply responded to validate the child's communication attempts and took turns naturally to keep the interaction flowing. The storyline stayed engaging from start to finish, and by the end of our pirate adventure, he was saying so many clear, spontaneous phrases like, "Do not touch it ever!"

For our GLP children, these playful interactions often become the spark for new words, new phrases, and growing confidence.

A reminder that no child is too "old" for play with toys.

The Grounds Therapy is now a Baby Bonus Approved Institution!

Parents with children below 7 years old can now use their Baby Bonus (via NETS) to pay for eligible 1-to-1 Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy Services at our centre.

We believe every child deserves access to quality therapy, and we're happy to make our services even more accessible for families.
