Mr Roland’s father taught him to fish. That's how it usually starts, he says.

After a career spanning nine engineering companies, he now helps his son's textile business when needed: fixing machinery, keeping things running. He's always been good with his hands.

For a while after retirement, he spent three months every year in Perth. His grandchildren are still there. He'd stay in a house by the coast, and within ten minutes he could be out fishing.

He met his fishing friend Desmond through his brother — a shared interest that became a regular fixture. They came to Bedok Jetty together today. On other days, they go on fishing trips to the Southern Islands and Pulau Hantu.

"It's very important to go out and do something," he says.

Mr John might just be the most energetic senior in Singapore. He speaks with gusto and conviction, and walks at the speed of most youths. Most days he can be found at Botanic Gardens, doing a brisk walk around the park with his wife before heading for breakfast.

A health conscious foodie, he loves venturing all over Singapore to try different hawker stalls. But he also diligently maintains a spreadsheet of everything he eats; keeping track of his weight, blood pressure, and calorie intake.

His Excel skills have been useful for his daily digital journaling, which he does in one massive Excel file. He loves taking pictures with the people he meets everyday, and will collage them with his day’s activities and favourite music.

He’s also a proud grandparent. His grandchildren have picked up his love for tennis, and one even recently won the Singapore School Tennis Championships.

After 65 years working as an electrician and technician, Mr Kiok Peng picked up Traditional Chinese Painting. It started with a doodle. Andy was sitting in a meeting, and in the boredom of it started doodling in his notepad.

That was ten years ago. He has since painted over 1,000 works — flowers, insects, birds, cityscapes, animals. He gravitates towards nature. When he travels or goes for a walk, he photographs anything that catches his eye and uses it later as inspiration.

Recently, he started experimenting with AI tools to bring his paintings to life — animating them into short videos, or creating product shots by placing them in beautiful frames on a wall. He completed a whole series of horse portraits for the Year of the Horse.

Outside of Art, he’s also passionate about travelling. Prudent saving as a technician allowed him to travel extensively, even till today, and he still loves it, and has been to almost major city in Europe at least twice.
