Glamping 🏕️ in Mt A*o
We chose a Kosugi Resort【公式】 for our mountain escapade. it’s a short 20 mins drive to the base of our hikes.
For our first night, we opted for the “Grandome” - a dome tent fully AC, with ensuite bathroom complete with an outdoor kitchen and our private bonfire. As it’s summer, we didn’t get to use the latter. It was very comfortable but unfortunately it didn’t have much privacy located next to the car park. We can’t have the curtains open to enjoy the view of the mountains which was what I had in mind when booking it. Also, we were placed quite close proximity to other lodgings so there’s no privacy. Customer service was really nice, and Ms Li managed to move us to a cabin with more privacy. The smell of pine in the cabin was just the perfect pot pourri to wake up to and we love how well kept, clean and tidy everything was. Good shower, good mattress and air conditioning for summer!

We had our food catered (self cook) for breakfast one day and 3 courses dinners for the 2 nights we were there. One meal was sukiyaki and the other was a BBQ. The amount of food provided was very generous and good quality! For both meals, we had the famous Akaushi wagyu beef as mains. We love cooking, having a couple of highballs while we watch the sunset. This is idyllic after a strenuous day of hiking. The perfect setting for our Mt A*o adventure and I would recommend this resort for families (lots of kids activities provided) and not so appropriate for couples seeking a romantic getaway. However we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here before we ventured to a half board ryokan for the next 2 nights for more pampering 😌
Our 3 nights here, with 1 breakfast and 2 dinners for 2 pax costs us approx SGD1300
💡 if you have questions about this resort, just leave a comment and I will try my best to answer 💫

This reel wraps up our 2nd day hike to Mt Nakadake 1506m followed by Mt Takadake 1592m, which is the highest peak in the A*o region.

The terrain here was rocky, more rugged, with loose volcanic sand, which made it an arduous trail. Coming down was especially hard on the knees. I cried with tears of joy when I saw the car park and my soft serve 🍦 waiting after nearly 6 hours. Because it was quite windy, I didn’t realised till later the sun was blistering so I came home with sunburnt shoulders as souvenirs! But the sense of accomplishment and the rewarding views made me wanna plan more hikes so this is definitely not my last 🤟🏼

First relay!

Coming in with a sprained ankle (three high-grade ligament tears, annoying!), the plan was simple: show up, even if it meant brisk walking instead of running. No way I was letting the team down.

But race day had other ideas. Somewhere between the adrenaline and the chaos, I forgot I was “injured” and clocked my best run 🫣 Sled pull? Yanked it like it owed me money. Weighted lunges? Kept focusing on putting one foot forward!

Turns out, when your team is counting on you—and your friends are screaming your name like it’s the Olympics—you find another gear forward

Best part? Doing this with my besties and proving that women in their 50s aren’t slowing down… we’re just getting competitive 💪🏼

They weren’t supposed to be here. Not past their bedtimes, not in matching kits, and definitely not signing up for something called HYROX like it was a casual Sunday yoga class 🫶🏻

It wasn’t my first race—but for my teammates, it was a full send into the unknown. didn’t just show up; they rewrote the script. Running, for starters—something shelved for over a decade—was dragged out of retirement. Obstacles? Wall balls or ski erg were a foreign concept but they trained for it too 💥

Race week—Audrey flew in from Penang, Gill from Sydney to meet us in Singapore. We geared up in full matchy-matchy glory (because if you’re going to suffer, you might as well look good doing it), slightly confused about relay transitions—but absolutely ready 🥊

This was never about chasing podiums or personal bests. It was about something rarer: showing up, together, with one shared goal—to get fitter, stronger, and prove that “comfort zone” is just a very overrated place to live 💯
****
And when the legs got heavy and the lungs questioned life choices, we looked up—to friends who showed up, cheered loud, and somehow made us faster, stronger, and just a little bit unstoppable 💪🏼

Team S**G aka Slay Belles and the bestest cheering squad ever .soul - thank you for making this such a memorable race 😘

Happy Year of the Horse 🐎 2026 from our family to yours. Last night’s reunion dinner was a quick put together from whatever I could find in the pantry and freezer! Having flown in from Sydney early in the morning, I decided on a simpler meal to gallop us into the new year. Although I wasn’t fully prepared, I’d still prefer a homecooked meal vs the chaos & crazy prices at the restaurants. It is rare for us to be in Singapore during this time and we’re missing our family in Malaysia and .flecker in Australia. Here’s what I cooked last night:
🏮 Creamy Crab Chicken Corn Soup with egg drop
🏮 Babi Ponteh - braised pork in taucheo, with mushrooms and potatoes
🏮 Ginger Soy Chicken with Morrels
🏮 Steam Fish Cantonese style
🏮 Lemongrass Chilli Prawns
🏮 Broccoli with braised Abalone and seared Scallops

A whirlwind weekend of double birthday lunches with my gorgeous girlfriends 💖 Some of these women I’ve known for two… three… decades (how did we get here and why do we still look this good? 😌). So much laughter, so many stories, full bellies and even fuller hearts. Feeling incredibly lucky to be surrounded by friendships that have stood the test of time and only gotten deeper, funnier and better 🥂✨

And a very special shoutout to the sublime matcha yama cake made by baker & cook extraordinaire — honestly, big love in cake form 🍰💚

Never would I thought I’d prioritise sleep over late night parties. Lunch over a dinner. Workout over a boozy night.
One thing never changed though. Consistency. Always show up. No excuses. Do the work. Dig deep 💯
