Exercise is not a cure; it is primarily a means of prevention. Early prevention is essential to minimize the loss of muscle mass. When it comes to this prevention, cardiovascular training is crucial for maintaining good heart and lung function. Additionally, strength training is important to prepare your muscles for sudden movements, such as reaching for support when you fall, chasing after a bus, or standing up from your seat. These activities require a quick application of force, which is why resistance training is necessary to enhance the strength of your fast-twitch muscle fibers. Why am I writing this? Recently, one of my S&C class students asked me a simple but important question: If the goal of my training is longevity, is it better to do cardiovascular training (CV) or resistance training (RT)? I thought it was a very good question, because many people tend to choose 1 si
