5 Differences Between Arthritis and Osteoarthritis that you must know!
Osteoarthritis and arthritis are two conditions that are very frequently confused, often because of the family of pathology to which they belong. However, they are indeed different and many of their symptoms are distinct. Let's find out the difference between these two diseases 🤔
1️⃣ Definition
𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨
Arthritis involves the joints in the fingers, wrists and feet. Instead, it is an inflammation that leads to the secretion of substances, gradually destroying the structure of the joint. 𝙊𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨
Osteoarthritis is a so-called mechanical condition characterized by the gradual wearing down of cartilage in the joints. This disease often attacks the joints in the hands, knees, hips and spine.
2️⃣ Symptoms
𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨
As for arthritis, using the joint generally reduces the intensity of the pain, since it is often worse at rest (during the night). Patients suffering from arthritis usually notice a warm feeling near the affected joint, as well as redness and swelling.
𝙊𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨
Pain from a load on the joints (when walking, lifting hands, bending knees). Pain usually occurs when the joint is moving and decreases when it is at rest.
3️⃣ Causes
𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨
Arthritis is often caused by hereditary factors. In addition, people with an immune disorder or a chemical imbalance for example: smoking are often at greater risk.
𝙊𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨
People in certain occupations are more at risk of osteoarthritis than others, since some of their joints are constantly being used, mainly the elbows and wrists. Obesity is also responsible for a number of osteoarthritis problems, particularly in the knees and hips.
4️⃣ Age
𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨
The disease can occur in young children and the disease is called juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Arthritis is higher among young individuals around the age of 20 years.
𝙊𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨
Diseases of the geriatric (elderly) age group and are often experienced by people over 40 years of age.
5️⃣Treatment
𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨
Treatment is medications, steroid injections and surgery. All of these treatments are only to reduce pain and restore function in the affected limb.
𝙊𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙨
Gain a healthy lifestyle and do treatment at home. In addition, taking alternative medications such as joint supplements are effective in reducing pain and lubricating cartilage.
Arthritis and Osteoarthritis are serious diseases that will damage our joints and affect our daily activities. Making treatment is a difficult and lengthy process that requires discipline and perseverance, a systematic method of taking a large number of medications.
Therefore, taking medication or supplements may help to treat this problem. 💊
