Sifr Aromatics is a small independant aromatic studio that is run by Johari Kazura. Inspired by Hanifa Kazura who set up his perfume shop in the Kampong Gelam area of Singapore in 1933. Johari undertakes the same journeys as his grandfather around the world to bring the art of aromatics to Sifr.

We’re looking for someone to join our team on Arab Street.

To be part of story that has been building since 1933. To learn the stories behind what we make, share them with the people who walk in, and genuinely connect with a neighbourhood that has more going on beneath the surface than most people realise.

You don’t need to know anything about fragrance to apply. Be curious, warm with people, and care about things that are worth preserving.

What the role actually looks like: part-time, flexible hours, no corporate environment.

Every day is a little different; tourists, locals, regulars, people who’ve never heard of Oud and leave knowing exactly why it matters. That’s the job.

We’re hiring for either a Retail Assistant and an Assistant Retail Manager. Full details on our website.

Kampong Gelam is one of those places that has more going on beneath the surface than people realise.

The incense that used to fill these streets; frankincense, myrrh, oud. These ingredients were part of life within Kampong Gelam. Burned at dusk and dawn, kept insects away, marked the day. Nobody thought twice about it.

We started the workshop because this knowledge was quietly disappearing. And it felt like something worth holding onto.

We always say scent is a common language. This year’s Mother’s Day we got to prove it.

We had the honour of hosting a group of mothers from The Therapy Room SG Room; women who give so much of themselves, often without ceremony. For one afternoon, Sifr sat together with these women. We explored ingredients, learned how to put words to what we smell, and each of these incredible mums walked away with a 9ml oil perfume they blended themselves through our Language of Perfume workshop.

Mother’s Day may have passed but these mums deserve more than one day to be celebrated.

Great ingredients have long flowed through this part of the island. We try not to take that for granted.

Our scented soy wax candles are hand-poured at the Sifr atelier on Arab Street, Kampong Glam. Same care, same curiosity that goes into the perfume oils. Every candle is a small-batch, handcrafted piece. Come smell them in person. Some things don’t translate well through a screen.

Our Language of Perfume is a hands-on fragrance workshop in Singapore. You’ll learn how a scent is built from raw ingredients, discover your own way of describing what you smell, and leave with a 9ml bespoke oil perfume that’s entirely yours. No background needed. Incense is the oldest perfume in the world.

Before glass bottles and name brands, people were burning frankincense, myrrh, and agarwood to scent their spaces, mark their rituals, and carry their prayers upward. It wasn’t luxury. It was just life.

In Kampong Gelam, it still is.

Our incense workshop takes you through all of it; where these three ingredients come from, what they smell like, why they’ve been traded across continents for thousands of years, and why they still matter on this street today.

You’ll leave knowing things most people never think to ask.
