♡ Japanese Style Grooming ♡

Helmed by a skilful and award-winning Japanese stylist from Tokyo, fur parents can have their animal companions transformed with trendy styles from Tokyo, creative makeovers and adorned with stylish hair extensions, accessories and even nail capping. Our salon adopts a open concept and uses state of the art, holistic, safe and sanitised equipment and material to provide quality grooming for our guests. Each stylist is only allocated 4 - 5 styling guests (depending on breed size and complexity) each day with no rush, frazzle and stress so you can rest assured your animal companion will receive undivided attention from our stylist with ample time to create unique looks.

♡ Spa & Healing Technology from Japan ♡

Petopia is the only pet service centre in the region to have a nanobubble bath machine imported from Japan. The nanobubble tub discharges nano-sized water particles which penetrate the pores of the skin and coat, thus giving the animal companion a thorough wash and lingering freshness. Animal companions with skin problems can be treated with an Ultrasonic Ozone Spa followed by a Clay-pack Far Infrared (FIR) therapy session. The Ultrasonic Ozone spa detoxifies the skin and coat with ozone and facilitates skin rejuvenation via an ultrasonic effect produced by the multiple jets in the tub. Following that, the animal companions are coated with healing clay blended with floral hydrolates, wrapped with a special bathrobe and then be massaged under the infrared panels, where the gentle radiant heat increases blood circulation, thereby reducing inflammation and soothing the skin and body with the healing clay mix. Petopia is also the first pet establishment in Asia other than Japan to introduce Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HOT), which helps animal companions cope with the effects of aging, illness, injury or overexertion via abundant access to pure oxygen. The animal companion is placed in a large transparent chamber that supplies a pressurised flow of pure oxygen 1.5 times that of atmospheric oxygen level, affording the companion more oxygen in the bloodstream for cell regrowth and repair, thus speeding the recovery process.

☆ LONGEVITY TIP ✼ 🐶 NEW STUDY : SPAYING OR NEUTERING DOGS BEFORE AGE 2 IS LINKED TO 343% HIGHER ODDS OF MAST CELLS CANCER ☆

ʕ•͡ᴥ•ʔ post shared with permission from pet nutrition blogger

✂️🥜🐶 What if WHEN you spay or neuter your dog matters just as much as whether you do it?

Preventing unwanted litters matters. But is it time to rethink HOW we sterilise dogs?

Hormone-sparing procedures, including hysterectomy and vasectomy, can prevent reproduction while preserving natural s*x hormones.

🔬 NEW 2026 PEER-REVIEWED RESEARCH

Over 10 years, researchers reviewed records from 56,254 veterinary patients, including 313 dogs with mast cell tumors and 638 tumor-free comparison dogs. The study was accepted for publication in The Veterinary Journal.

🤯 TIMING MATTERS

Dogs spayed or neutered before age 2 had 343% higher odds of a mast cell tumour diagnosis compared with intact dogs. Dogs sterilised after age 2 showed no statistically significant increase.

🐕 SIZE MATTERS

Compared with small dogs, medium dogs had 2.6 times the odds and large dogs 5.2 times the odds.

⚖️ WEIGHT MATTERS

Overweight dogs had 80% higher odds than dogs at an ideal weight.

🧬 BREED MATTERS

Compared with mixed-breed dogs, American Pit Bull Terriers had 7.5 times the odds and Boxers 3.9 times. Some breed groups were small.

❤️ WHAT ABOUT SURVIVAL

Neutering status was not significantly associated with survival after surgery. Tumour grade and size were more important predictors.

🔬 WHY MIGHT HORMONES MATTER

S*x hormones influence immune function and development. Researchers propose that early hormone removal and changes in luteinising hormone (LH) may play a role, but this remains unproven.

🐾 THE BIG TAKEAWAY

Preventing unwanted litters does notalways mean removing hormone-producing organs. It’s time for individualised conversations with veterinarians about WHEN and HOW we sterilize dogs. 🐶☀️🐟

❈ ❈ ʕ•͡ᴥ•ʔ HAZE UPDATE🌥🐾 ❈ ❈

A day for little discoveries indoors. 🐾

At 5pm, Singapore’s 1-hour PM₂.₅ readings ranged from 125–166 µg/m³ (Elevated–High), while the 24-hour PSI ranged from 160–227 (Unhealthy–Very Unhealthy).

Hourly PM₂.₅ was High in Central and South. West, Central and East remained in the Very Unhealthy range for 24-hour PSI.

Both readings are updated hourly, but they describe different timeframes.

The 1-hour PM₂.₅ reading reflects fine-particle concentrations over the preceding hour, while the 24-hour PSI reflects conditions over a longer averaging period. They also use different scales, so the numbers cannot be compared directly.

A temporary improvement in hourly PM₂.₅ may therefore occur while the 24-hour PSI remains high.

With haze continuing to affect Singapore, we’re bringing the discoveries indoors.

At Puzzle Café & Learning Lab™️, our furbies can sniff, investigate and explore thoughtfully selected food puzzles at their own pace.

A hidden morsel invites investigation; a movable cover offers a little challenge — with gentle guidance from our pet guardians and room to pause and rest.

At home, keep outdoor exposure to a minimum and replace strenuous exercise with gentle indoor enrichment.

Keep essential toilet trips brief. If your furbie shows difficulty breathing, seek urgent veterinary care.

There is still plenty to discover when we adapt the day around their wellbeing. 💚

★ ✰ TRUCK DRIVER TRANSFORMED SCHOOL BUS INTO A REAL-LIFE "NOAH'S ARK", RESCUING 64 ANIMALS FROM HURRICANE FLORENCE 🐕 ✰ ★

As Hurricane Florence approached, truck driver Tony Alsup put a school bus to an extraordinary use: helping animals get out of the storm’s path. 🚌

He transformed the bus into a real-life “Noah’s Ark,” rescuing 53 dogs and 11 cats from overcrowded shelters in South Carolina and transporting them to safety.

That’s 64 animals given a chance to escape a dangerous situation. Behind that number were individual lives, each depending on people to make room for them and help them reach a safer place.

For shelters already struggling with limited space, an approaching hurricane made a difficult situation even more urgent. Tony’s bus offered something practical and desperately needed: a way out.

The image of a school bus filled with animal carriers is a powerful reminder of what compassion can look like in action. Sometimes it means seeing a need, using what you have, and being willing to do the work.

Tony Alsup’s rescue deserves to be remembered, along with the shelter workers, volunteers, and caregivers who help protect animals during disasters. Their efforts give vulnerable animals a chance when they need it most.

One bus. Sixty-four lives. An act of kindness worth sharing. ❤️🐶🐱🐶❤️ 🐾🧡❤️💛💖💕

★ ✰ S’pore Owner Allegedly Planned To Euthanise 1½-year-old Goldendoodle 'Cause Nobody Want Him', Says Dog Has Since Been Rehomed ✰ ★

The owner of Simba, a 1½-year-old male goldendoodle, said he planned to euthanise the dog after being unable to find someone willing to adopt it, attributing the difficulty in rehoming it to its behaviour.

A reader alerted Mothership to Simba’s situation after another member of a group chat called “furball siblings” shared an appeal to find it a home.

Screenshots seen by Mothership show the owner discussing plans to euthanise it in a separate Bukit Batok residents’ group chat.

Responding to Mothership’s queries, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said its inspectors were told by the owner and a rescuer that Simba is now in foster care and will undergo training before being rehomed.

According to SPCA, the rescuer caring for Simba said its owner had cited euthanasia out of desperation.

☆ Family allegedly pressed for euthanasia ☆

In the residents’ group chat, Simba’s owner said the dog would need to be euthanised because “nobody want him”, adding that his family was pressing for this to happen.

Another participant asked when he intended to do so, explaining that they were reaching out to people who might be able to give Simba a home. The owner replied that he was planning to euthanise it “after 7 days”.

SPCA said the rescuer subsequently told its inspectors that the owner had limited experience with dogs and had cared for Simba for only a week.

☆ Owner claims shelters would not take Simba in ☆

When another participant in the residents’ group chat suggested approaching SPCA, Simba’s owner claimed that shelters did not want to take it in. He later attributed the difficulty in finding someone to take the dog to its behaviour.

Asked by Mothership about Simba’s behaviour and the shelters approached, the owner declined to provide further details. He did not identify which shelters had been contacted or explain the behavioural issues involved.

SPCA’s response did not establish which shelters had been approached or whether they had declined to accept Simba.

☆ Simba reportedly rehomed ☆

Speaking to Mothership, Simba’s owner said he was the dog’s third owner and had originally found it through Facebook adoption groups. He said Simba had been picked up by a new caregiver on Sunday (Oct. 4) at 7pm, but declined to explain how the caregiver had been found.

The reader also shared a screenshot of an update in “furball siblings” by the same member who had circulated the appeal. The member said Simba had been adopted by “someone from a shelter”, alongside a photo appearing to show the dog being walked on a leash by a woman.

Mothership initially attempted to verify the reported adoption but was unable to independently confirm it.

SPCA subsequently clarified that Simba was handed over to a rescuer for fostering and subsequent rehoming. Its inspectors contacted the owner after being alerted to the chat messages, then spoke to the rescuer, who said Simba was settling into its foster home and would undergo training before being rehomed.

☆ SPCA cautions against casually mentioning euthanasia ☆

While SPCA said it sympathised with the owner’s situation, it cautioned against casually presenting euthanasia as a potential solution.

“Euthanasia is not the answer to a healthy but simply unwanted pet,” it said.

Speaking generally, SPCA said such mentions can prompt people to quickly offer to take over a pet’s care, creating false urgency and adding pressure to rescuers already handling genuine emergencies.

“For every healthy animal they accept, they have one less space for an animal whose life hangs in the balance,” it added.

SPCA advised owners to explore responsible rehoming options, including its rehoming noticeboard, or engage a professional trainer who uses force-free, positive reinforcement methods where behavioural challenges are the main concern.

It also urged prospective owners to consider the lifelong commitment carefully and plan for behavioural training from the outset, even before problems arise.

☆ Singapore’s veterinary guidelines on euthanasia ☆

According to the Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS), veterinarians must comply with the Code of Ethics for Veterinarians as part of their licensing conditions.

The code provides for euthanasia to prevent unnecessary suffering, but requires appropriate treatment options to be considered first. It also allows veterinarians to refuse a request for euthanasia if they do not deem it necessary. Decisions about treatment or animal care should be guided by the animal’s welfare, the owner’s commitment to treatment and public safety.

Separately, dog training and behaviour rehabilitation guidelines supported by AVS recommend professional assessment of aggression issues, early behavioural intervention and veterinary advice to rule out health-related causes.❣️
