🔍 MYTH OR FACT?
“If one ear’s hearing is very poor or considered a ‘dead ear’. hearing aid cannot help...”
❌ MYTH — not necessarily.
If one ear has profound hearing loss with little or no usable hearing, a conventional hearing aid may not provide sufficient benefit for that ear.
But that doesn’t always mean nothing can be done.
👂 Meet CROS hearing technology.
A CROS system is designed specifically for people with very poor hearing in one ear and better hearing in the other.
Here’s the clever part:
A small device worn on the poorer ear picks up sounds from that side and wirelessly sends them to the better-hearing ear.
So instead of constantly turning your “good ear” towards people, you can gain better access to conversations and sounds coming from your poorer-hearing side.
This can help:
✔️ Improve awareness of sounds from the poorer side (sounds localisation)
✔️ Reduce the “head shadow” effect caused when your head blocks sound travelling to the better ear
✔️ Make conversations easier when someone is sitting on your weaker hearing side
✔️ Create a more comfortable, less tiring listening experience
Many are surprised by the difference simply being able to access sounds from their poorer side can make.
CROS doesn’t restore hearing to the poorer ear or recreate normal two-ear hearing. But for the right individual, it can make everyday communication significantly easier.
So if you were told—or have simply assumed—
“That ear can’t hear anymore, so nothing can be done…”
…it may be time to ask a different question:
“What other hearing solutions are available to me?”
