If you have been scrolling through your feed lately, you have probably heard a lot of buzz about "buccal fat." But what exactly is it, and why is everyone talking about it?
💡 What is Buccal Fat?
Pronounced "buck-uhl", these are naturally occurring pads of fat located deep within the hollow of your lower cheeks, right between your cheekbones and jawline. Everyone has them but their size varies heavily based on your genetics.
In our younger years: They act as cushions to help with facial muscle movement (like chewing or sucking) and give the face a youthful, soft appearance.
As we mature: Sometimes, larger buccal fat pads can create a persistent "baby face" or chipmunk cheek look, regardless of body weight or fitness level.
When people want a more defined, sculpted, or "snatched" facial structure, they often look into treatments targeting this specific area. For the right candidate, addressing the buccal fat pad can subtly hollow out the lower cheek, making the cheekbones pop and creating a more chiseled shadow.
Facial fat is crucial for a youthful look as we age! Removing or reducing too much can sometimes lead to a gaunt look later in life. That's why a personalized assessment is everything.
