Anyone for a bit of Mario Kart therapy? ๐ŸŽ๏ธ๐Ÿ•น๏ธ
Well - it's not (just) about an Italian plumber and his go-kart friends but it is about accessibility and switches - learning new skills, all the whilst having a whole load of fun! ๐Ÿคฉ
From learning to use accessibility switches, to gaining new upper limb skills, to head control and more - it's all about using technology in a fun and innovative way to empower children and young adults of all ages and abilities! ๐Ÿฅฐ
Fun fact: Healthy Strides (Australia) was the first clinic outside of Japan to utilise the Horii Flex Controller as part of our upper limb therapy suite of tools.
We've been using the Flex controller since 2020 - deciphering the ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต Japanese manuals before it was even available in English!
For anyone interested, our team from Australia even has a guide on using it with the Tobii Eye Gaze for control with just your eyes! ๐Ÿ‘€ see Healthy Strides Foundation for all the details.

With decades of experience providing the latest research and evidence based interventions for children with neurodisabilities, Healthy Strides is now proud to present S.T.A.R.T.
What is S.T.A.R.T?
It is the very latest in research and evidence - it's not a brand, it's not tied into a product, it's the next generation of therapy services.
๐Ÿ”ต Self initiation
Therapy begins with the childโ€™s choice and brain-driven motivation. Instead of the therapist starting every movement, we create environments where the child decides to begin. This taps intrinsic drive, activates cognitive engagement, and builds true autonomy. It's true cognitive engagement.
๐ŸŸข Task Specificity
We target exactly the skills that matter in daily life โ€” climbing stairs at home, playing on the playground, or getting dressed. Specificity ensures the brain wires for real contexts, leading to better transfer than isolated exercises.
๐ŸŸก Accelerated Learning
Intensity is smart, not maximum. We use science and data to inform us of the required intensity. We use optimal dosing with built-in rest and consolidation periods so the brain can actually form and strengthen new pathways. Over-intensity without recovery can spike cortisol, which studies confirm inhibits neuroplasticity in the motor cortex.
๐ŸŸ  Real World Application
We use whole-task practice in natural or simulated everyday settings โ€” a child learns to stand up from the floor by actually practising getting up in a play scenario, not isolated leg lifts. Systematic reviews confirm whole-task, task-oriented training produces significantly better functional gains, balance, and participation than part-task or equipment-heavy methods.
๐ŸŸฃ Transformation
The ultimate goal: therapy becomes a joyful journey. When children form positive associations โ€” laughing, choosing, succeeding โ€” powerful neuroplastic responses follow.
Confidence grows, independence blooms, and a love of learning emerges.

โ€œWill my child walk without aids or walk independently?โ€ - it's a question that we hear all the time.
Every childโ€™s journey to independent mobility is unique. But research shows that supportive stepping devices can make a real, meaningful difference.
These devices give children safe, guided upright positioning and mobility. They open the door to genuine independence โ€” letting kids explore their natural environments at home, at school, and in their communities. ๐ŸŒ
With the right level of support, children develop:
๐ŸŸข Curiosity and pure joy in exploring their world and surroundings.
๐ŸŸก Independence to get where they want to go - actively choosing and making decisions.
๐Ÿ”ต Confidence to keep going further and when children walk more, they strengthen their lower-limb muscles, build fitness, and โ€” most importantly โ€” participate fully in life. ๐Ÿ’ชโœจ
If youโ€™d like to learn more about how the right equipment can encourage movement and independence, check out our episode on the Therabytes podcast!

We'd love to hear from you โ€” what experiences have you had with mobility supports?

No DMI, no CME, no NDT and no Vojta!
Healthy Strides provides only the very latest research backed intervention for children and young adults with neurological conditions and injuries - it's called START!
S.T.A.R.T begins and ends with fun! With more independence, better engagement, higher confidence, and most importantly, joy in learning โ€“ itโ€™s transformative!"

๐ŸŸ  Real Life Application
๐ŸŸฃ Transformation
It's a different paradigm - "No pain, no gain!" has "no place!" in paediatric therapy.
When a child makes good associations with therapy, when they trust their therapist, when they enjoy their time learning new skills, it makes for powerful neuroplastic responses. โค๏ธ
It is the ultimate goal: where therapy becomes a joyful journey. When children form positive associations โ€” laughing, choosing, succeeding โ€” powerful neuroplastic responses follow. Confidence grows, independence blooms, and a love of learning emerges.
We love to celebrate when families report children who initiate play at home themselves, when they engage willingly in sessions, and carry their new-found skills into kindergarten, school or the park. ๐Ÿฅฐ

We โค๏ธ being a part of the Healthy Strides family!

What a week! Hello Singapore!
This week, Dayna and Sophia visited the Healthy Strides Singapore team.
Apart from our stunning views there with our centre on the 17th floor ๐Ÿ˜ฏ๐Ÿคฉ, the team and the children are doing so incredibly well - we couldn't be more proud!
It's always about supporting our culture - our space, our team and constantly setting our standard of excellence in the therapy that we provide.
Our therapy is all about the START framework which is based on the latest research and is how we ensure that skills are really learnt and maintained beyond therapy - to truly make a difference in everyday lives and importantly enjoy the process!
Of course, we also spend our down time eating chicken rice and noodles ๐Ÿ˜‹ whilst enjoying the humidity ๐Ÿ˜…
Now, we're off to visit our team in Malaysia!! ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ

All about Muscle Electrical Stimulation โšกโœจ
One of Dayna's favourite tools for helping kids level up their skills! (Fun fact: she literally did her PhD in E-Stim - serious expertise + real research data here! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ช).
Why we โค๏ธ it:
When dialed in just right, E-Stim:
โœ… Builds muscle strength
โœ… Boosts body awareness (for better control!)
โœ… Powers up new motor skills
We weave it into therapy to make it SUPER fun:
๐ŸŽฎ Gamified sessions
๐Ÿ•น๏ธ Sensor tech adventures
๐Ÿšฒ Bike rides with a boost
๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ Walking practice that feels like play!
Kids gain skills faster, they enjoy the process and they see some serious progress! ๐Ÿ”ฅ
