Jiu Jian (玖健) is a multi-talented artist and visionary whose creative journey has profoundly shaped Singapore’s Chinese music and performing-arts scene for over three decades. Emerging from the xinyao movement, he has released numerous solo albums, performed many beloved TV drama theme songs, and starred as the male lead in December Rains — Singapore’s first Mandarin musical. At 19, he received the Best Song Award, and in 2013 became the youngest and first Mandarin-pop recipient of the COMPASS Meritorious Award. His pioneering spirit led him to produce Singapore’s first karaoke album for Dr Liang Wern Fook, as well as two instrumental albums that reimagined xinyao through piano and Chinese-orchestral arrangements—preserving and revitalising local music across generations. From 1993 to 2003, he brought his voice and empathy to radio broadcasting with Rediffusion, SAFRA Radio FM88.3, and NTUC Radio Heart FM100.3, hosting heart-to-heart talk shows with local counselling centres. His books Emotional Diary 心情日记 and The Next Song 下一首歌 capture both the emotional journeys of his listeners and his own path of healing and reflection. Diagnosed with serious depression in 2003 after enduring childhood and teenage trauma, Jiu Jian transformed pain into purpose. Through years of mindfulness, music, and spiritual practice, he discovered how sound and awareness could awaken inner peace. Today, as a Mindfulness Vocal & Hypnotherapist, Transformational Life Coach, and 200 HRS RYT Yoga Teacher, he bridges art and therapy to guide others toward emotional clarity and resilience. As Founder of Jiu Jian’s Mindfulness Vocal & Healing Sanctuary, he integrates voice-based mindfulness, somatic awareness, hypnotherapy, and yoga, helping individuals release inner blocks, rediscover calm, and reconnect with authenticity. From music to stage to radio, from trauma to transformation to therapeutic service, Jiu Jian continues to let healing begin with the sound.

玖健——新加坡华语音乐界的多栖创作人、歌手与疗愈导师。三十多年来,他以真挚的声音与创意,深深影响了本地华语流行音乐与舞台艺术的发展。自“新谣”时期崭露头角后,他陆续发行多张个人专辑,并演唱多部电视剧主题曲;曾在新加坡首部中文音乐剧《雨季 December Rains》中担任男主角,成为舞台经典。

作为作曲人,他的作品由多位国际艺人演唱,包括张学友、周慧敏、郑中基等。十九岁即获得“最佳作曲奖”,并于 2013 年荣获新加坡作曲版权协会 COMPASS 杰出贡献奖,成为首位华语流行类得主。九十年代,他制作了梁文福博士的首张卡拉 OK 专辑,及两张以钢琴与华乐改编的新谣经典专辑,为新谣注入新生命。

1993 至 2003 年间,玖健活跃于丽的呼声、SAFRA FM88.3、NTUC Radio Heart FM100.3 等电台,与辅导机构合作主持心灵谈话节目,并出版著作《心情日记》《下一首歌》,记录听众与自身的疗愈旅程。

在经历童年与少年时期的创伤,并于 2003 年确诊严重抑郁症后,他以音乐、正念与灵性修行走出阴霾,让“声音”成为觉醒与疗愈的力量。

如今,身为正念声音与催眠治疗师、转化生命教练、200 小时瑜伽导师,他将艺术与疗愈结合,引导人们释放情绪阻碍,找回身心平衡。

鲜少同一天内安排两场聚会

一场为二十年好友提前庆生
另一场,则是二十五年后的重聚

前者是诞辰,后者像全新友谊的诞生

这些年越来越相信,宇宙总会在恰好的时间,把该遇见的人安排在彼此生命里

走过近十年的身心灵修习之路,我也越来越体会到「舍得」二字的深意

手掌握得越轻盈,承载的终究有限;也正因为有限,才更懂得珍存每一份真实

不求多,但求真
不求满,但求深

有些友情,是岁月酿成的酒
有些友情,是多年后重新萌芽的种子
两者皆珍贵🙏✨

One Day, Two Gatherings.

One was an early birthday celebration for a dear friend, marking 20 years friendship.
The other was a reunion after more than two decades.

Interestingly, it didn't feel like a reunion at all. Instead, it felt like the birth of a new friendship.

Over the years, I have come to believe that the universe has a beautiful way of bringing the right people into our lives at the right time.

Some friendships are like fine wine, matured beautifully with time.
Others are like seeds that sprout again after many seasons.
Both are equally precious.

Continuing my Chiang Dao Theatre Concert throwback series, this clip brings me into yet another role — a monk.

Of course, it is impossible to simply "sound like a monk."

What interested me more was this: How do I turn inward, even for a few moments, and connect with the qualities this character represents?

Over the years, my Vipassana meditation practice, together with several opportunities to serve at meditation centres, has given me a small glimpse into the simplicity, discipline, and inner stillness often associated with monastic life.Perhaps that became part of the foundation from which I approached this role.

Simply imitating or crafting the voice of a monk can only achieve a surface effect.

But as performers, how deeply we can internalise the spirit behind a character and allow it to naturally emerge through our voice depends on something more — our awareness, life experience, inner cultivation, and understanding of the human condition.

Some things can be imitated.
Some things can only be experienced.

This is also why, as a mentor, I often encourage my students to go beyond voice training alone. Read widely. Learn a musical instrument. Travel. Explore the arts. Spend time in nature. Practise mindfulness. Observe life closely. Because what ultimately touches people is not merely the voice itself, but the person behind the voice.

The depth of a voice often comes from the depth of life.

From Performance to Presence.

继续我的清道剧场音乐会回顾系列, 这一段,我饰演的是一位和尚。当然, 单纯把声音塑造成一位出家人的声音,其实并不容易。

更让我感兴趣的是:如何在短短几分钟里, 将心往内收, 去连接这个角色所代表的状态与特质。

这些年来的内观禅修练习, 以及数次在禅修中心服务的经历, 让我对出家人的简朴、纪律与内在安定, 有了一点点体会。也许, 这也成为我进入这个角色时的一份基础。

单纯从声音技巧上去模仿或塑造修行人的声音, 充其量只能达到表面的效果。但作为表演者, 如何将角色的精神与内在状态慢慢内化, 并透过声音自然流露出来,则考验着一个人的觉察力、 生命阅历、 内在修为, 以及对人性的理解。

有些东西可以模仿,
有些东西只能体会。

这也是为什么, 除了声音训练之外,我常鼓励学生持续丰富自己的内涵与生命经验。阅读、 学习乐器、 旅行、 接触艺术、 亲近大自然、 正念练习, 甚至认真体验人生中的喜怒哀乐。
因为最终打动人的, 从来不只是声音本身,
而是声音背后那个活过、感受过、体会过的人。
