Researchers Grant Shields, Matthew Sazma and Andrew Yonelinas from the University of California, Davis conducted a meta-analysis examining the effects of acute stress on three core executive functions: 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝗶𝗻𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.

Their finding? 𝗔𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. Cognitive flexibility is particularly relevant because it helps us adapt our thinking when circumstances change rather than continuing to apply an approach that may no longer fit. The researchers also found that the effects varied depending on factors including s*x, so this is not a claim that stress affects every person or every cognitive function in the same way.

More customers. More orders. More opportunities. From the outside, they all look like growth.

Personal growth can become another hamster wheel.
