Our Cosylabers, Bor Brecelj and Tim Soles Kos, returned from the Mayo Clinic AI & Data Science Datathon and Data Summit 2026 in Jacksonville with fresh insights from an intense few days of workshops, talks, and discussions around real-world clinical AI deployment.

Tim shared what stood out to him most:

“It wasn’t the size of the dataset or even the fact that our team won a prize. It was realizing how large the gap still is between clinical AI concepts and the software hospitals actually use in daily workflows. I went to Mayo without a specific goal in mind, but after three days of lectures and conversations, I came back with a much clearer picture of where clinical software is still falling short, and who is quietly working to fix it.

Prof. Kee Yuan Ngiam, a physician from Singapore, presented BERTRAND, a multi-agent AI system connected to Epic that generates pre-rounding and pre-clerking drafts from clinical notes and results.

Dr. Chris Sauer showed a similar direction from Essen, where integrated data infrastructure supports clinical workflow tools, including bedside dashboards for handovers and AI integration.

Both are physician-engineers building these systems themselves because the tools they need in practice still don’t really exist. It’s a strong signal that clinical insight and software engineering need to evolve much more closely together.”

Thank you to the Mayo Clinic team and the course directors for organizing an excellent event and creating space for these conversations to happen.

If you’d like to continue the discussion, you can meet Tim at PTCOG 2026.

Yesterday, the entire Cosylab team took a day away from their work and came together at Klub Kubu Vodice for our annual team gathering. 🎊

The afternoon was packed with volleyball, tennis, basketball, axe throwing, 4-in-a-row, and even drone racing. Competitive spirits were high, diplomas were earned, and the axe throwing rankings remain a topic of debate.

The day also brought a special moment: a cake marking Cosylab's 25th anniversary, shared with the whole team. A milestone worth celebrating together.

At Cosylab, we believe that taking care of our people means more than good work conditions; it means making space for moments like these. A day where everyone comes together, recharges, and remembers who they're building something with.

Here's to our team. 🥂

Yesterday we hosted a panel on complex B2B sales at Cosylab, and one thought lingered in the air long after it ended: complex sales is not a sprint, but a combination of chess and poker. 🎯

In chess, you plan moves ahead and gradually reduce your opponent's space. In poker, you must read your counterpart and guess what they're holding. That's exactly how complex B2B sales works – strategy plus intuition.

Panelists Mark Pleško (Cosylab), Tone Stanovnik (Špica International), and Jovan Pavičevič (Better) shared honest stories about sales cycles that last from six months to more than three years. About complex decisions involving ten or more people, where it only takes one to say "no" for the deal to fall through.

And the sharpest thought of the evening?

"If you don't know who the sucker in the room is, then it's most probably you."
If you don't know why you lost the deal, you made the mistake. Not the price, not the competition. You.

Thanks to Primož Hvala for excellent moderation and to all participants for active engagement and open debate. 🙏

What an incredible three days it has been at -- all about inspiring meaningful conversations, forging new connections and creating memories!

We extend a huge thanks to each and every one of you who stopped by our booth and took the time to share your thoughts and questions with our team!

It was a pleasure to meet so many passionate professionals contributing to the future of radiation oncology and cancer care! The energy throughout the event made this year's ESTRO truly memorable, and we're excited about the collaborations and opportunities ahead, based on the new connections we've made.

And of course, a special thanks to our amazing crew for bringing the energy, expertise, and smiles every single day 😊

Until next time, European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO). 👋

When delivery reliability falls short, it's rarely one problem.

It's cumulative friction.

Integration takes a bit longer than expected, a compliance gap surfaces late, the temporary fix stays, technical debt slows the next cycle.

Delivery reliability erodes.

Each step looks manageable on its own. Together, they compound. This is the friction cascade, and why control architecture decisions made early matter more than they look.

This week Cosylab hosted Shigehiro Tanaka and Shizuka Kuwasako from NEC Corporation at our headquarters. They met to finalize the recommendations they will present this week at the BRT annual meeting in Brussels.

Mark Pleško, our CEO, is a member of the EU-Japan Business Round Table (BRT), where major companies from the EU and Japan meet annually to provide recommendations to Ministers and Commissioners on how to improve business and trade between the two regions. Mark holds a leading role as co-chair of Working Party 4 (WP4) - Environment & Sustainable Development, with Shigehiro Tanaka serving as his Japanese co-chair.

Between policy discussions, Shigehiro Tanaka toured our facilities and was visibly intrigued by the breadth of Cosylab's control systems expertise that spans quantum, fusion, accelerators, radiation therapy, and semiconductor applications.

We are glad to be part of EU-Japan business relations that continue to strengthen collaboration between both regions. 🤝

Today, we are at the Month of Electrical Engineering + Career Fair at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, where today’s themed event is dedicated to Biomedical Engineering.

This field is especially interesting to us, as biomedical engineering is closely connected to one of Cosylab’s key domains — radiation oncology. At Cosylab, we develop advanced control systems and software solutions for radiation therapy, helping support precise, reliable, and safe cancer treatment.

At the same time, radiation oncology is just one part of what we do. We are also active in other advanced technology domains, including particle accelerators, fusion, and quantum, working on complex systems where engineering precision, reliability, and software excellence truly matter.

If you are interested in the intersection of physics, electrical engineering, software, medicine, and real-world engineering challenges, stop by our booth. We’ll be happy to talk about our projects, collaboration opportunities, and career paths at Cosylab.

P.S.: we have plenty of interesting prizes waiting for you. 🎁

🚀 Project Kick-off: SQORPION

We are excited to announce the successful kick-off of project SQORPION under the European Defence Fund (EDF).

In this project, Cosylab participates in an international consortium dedicated to advancing quantum inertial and magnetometry sensors. The initiative focuses on developing strategies for system miniaturisation and integration, while also exploring potential defence-related applications for both sensing concepts.

By pushing the boundaries of quantum sensing technologies, the SQORPION project aims to unlock new possibilities for highly precise navigation and detection systems.

We look forward to the challenges ahead and to working closely with our partners to drive innovation in this cutting-edge field.

This March Cosylab had the honour of participating in a high-level discussion marking the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, hosted by the Slovenian Network of Women in Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

The event began with an opening speech by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon, followed by a video message from NASA astronaut Sunita L. Williams, which demonstrated that science knows no borders and that global cooperation is a necessity, not an option.

The discussion brought together leaders from science, academia, engineering, and diplomacy, including Prof. Dr Maja Zalaznik, President of the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO; Dr Neža Vadnjal from the National Institute of Chemistry; Prof. Dr Matjaž Mikoš, President of the Academy of Engineering; and our CEO, Dr Mark Plesko.

With more than 100 participants filling the hall, including numerous ambassadors, the atmosphere made one thing clear: the intersection of science and diplomacy is becoming one of the defining strategic arenas of our time.
