Words of Advice
by H.H. the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa

All sentient beings experience the tiring and indefinite
cycle of birth and death and mind illusions. Everything
is ever changing at all times.
The Buddhadharma has a simple meditative
technique to calm the mind, thus making it clear and
luminous. The purpose is to purify our habitual
tendencies and our mind, in Order for us to benefit all
sentient beings.

Namo Buddha or Takmo Lüjin is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site of Nepal, and one of the three main stupas of the Kathmandu valley. Situated about 40 km to the south east of Kathmandu city, the stupa built on the bones and hair of prince Mahasattva (Tib. Semchen Chenpo), stands on the slopes of the Gandha Malla hill.

According to the Jatakas and several sutras, Mahasattva was one of Buddha Shakyamuni's former incarnations. He was the youngest of the three sons of king Maharatha. One day as the three brothers were walking through the forest, they saw a tigress with the five cubs she had given birth to. She was so hungry she could hardly move. The three princes went away, but Mahasattva decided to go back and started to cut his flesh to give it to the tigress to eat. When his brothers went to look for him they found only his bones and hair. The stupa was built on top of these remains.

Vipaśyin was born in Bandhumatī in Khema Park, in present-day India. His family was of the Kshatriya varna, which constituted the ruling and military elite of the Vedic period. His father was Bandhumā the warrior-chief, and his mother was Bandhumatī. His wife was Sutanu, and he had a son named Samavattakkhandha.

Vipaśyin lived as a householder for 8,000 years in the palaces of Nanda, Sunanda and Sirimā. Upon renouncing his worldly life, he rode out of the palace in a chariot. Vipaśyin practiced asceticism for eight months before attaining enlightenment under an Ajapāla nigrodha tree. Just prior to achieving buddhahood, he accepted a bowl of milk rice offered by Sudassana-setthi's daughter, and grass for his seat by a guard named Sujâta.

"Never give up! Never stop looking for the very best! Never stop yourself making a step to be kind to others!

Never stand there saying: “I am doing quite well middle size!” You have to be top size. Kindness and braveness - this is what the Buddhas expect from us and what Karmapa and Rinpoche expect from us, and I'll kick your behinds if you don’t give it!

Kindo Baha was built in 807 Nepal Sambat (1687 AD) by one Shakyabhiksu. The king of Kathmandu Parthivendra Malla attended the inauguration ceremony. The monastery's Sanskrit name is Kirttana Mahavihara. Its popular name is derived from a holy man named Kindol who used to meditate at the site where the monastery stands. The present building dates from the 1920s when it was renovated at the initiative of Buddhist scholar and activist Dharmaditya Dharmacharya. The main image here is a statue of Buddha Akshobhya.

Guru Rinpoche Day - Guru Rinpoche is flung into the River Ganges by the tīrthikas of Zangling. By miraculously performing a vajra dance in the sky and reversing the flow of the river, he inspires devotion and establishes the kingdom in the teaching of Buddha. Then he is known as Guru Khading Tsal, Guru soaring in the sky like the garuda.
