🍺 A new study has found that 95% of beers tested across the U.S. contain forever chemicals (PFAS), raising concerns about how widespread environmental contamination is making its way into everyday products.

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are man-made chemicals prized for their resistance to water, oil, and stains—but they persist in the environment and are linked to health risks.

Researchers analyzed 23 beers from different regions, including major U.S. and international brands. Using a U.S. EPA testing method typically applied to drinking water, they detected PFAS in nearly all samples.

Levels were highest in beers brewed in areas with known water contamination, particularly near North Carolina’s Cape Fear River Basin. These beers contained multiple PFAS, including PFOS and PFOA—chemicals recently regulated in U.S. drinking water due to potential health effects.

The study highlights a strong link between municipal water contamination and PFAS levels in locally brewed beer.
