📢 Strengthening Health Communication Through the Development of Messages and IEC Materials

The Health Education Programme, in collaboration with the Directorate of Food and Nutrition, successfully convened a two-day workshop focused on developing key health messages and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials to support priority health interventions.

The workshop brought together technical participants from the Directorate of Food and Nutrition, Health Education Programme, Child Health, Infection Prevention and Control Programme, Community Health Programme, Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), Directorate of Reproductive Health, Western Area Urban DHMT, and Western Area Rural DHMT.

Participants worked collaboratively to identify and develop clear, accurate, audience-focused health messages and IEC materials around key priority health interventions including Maternal Nutrition, Exclusive Breastfeeding, Complementary Feeding, IPC, Male Involvement and Support with the aim of improving health awareness, promoting positive behaviours, influencing positive attitudes and strengthening community engagement.

🤝 The collaborative approach brought together expertise from different health programmes and directorates, ensuring that the messages and materials developed are aligned with national health priorities and responsive to the information needs of communities.

The workshop was supported by Action Against Hunger (AAH), whose continued partnership contributes to strengthening health promotion and community health communication efforts.

World Breastfeeding Week 2026 | August 1–7

The Health Education Programme proudly joins the Directorate of Food and Nutrition and the global community in commemorating World Breastfeeding Week, beginning with the Breastfeeding Health Walk on August 1st.

Under the leadership of the new Programme Manager, we are reaffirm our commitment to promoting, protecting, and supporting breastfeeding through effective health communication and community engagement.

As part of this year's celebration, the Health Education Programme led the development and dissemination of key breastfeeding messages, producing educational jingles, coordinating media engagements, and utilizing Public Address (PA) and press briefing as well as health walk to ensure lifesaving information reaches communities across the country.

Together, let's raise awareness about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, support mothers and families, and give every child the healthiest start to life.

Male partners and family membets, the call to support breastfeeding is being made and the action is Now!!!

The period of breastfeeding from 0-6 months can be challenging for mothers to give breast milk only to babies, limiting babies chances to get the much needed life-saving breast milk on demand and at the right time.

So, support from family members, especially male partners/husbands is key in ensuring effective breastfeeding for our babies.
