BOMBALI DISTRICT DISCHARGES AMBASSADORS OF POSITIVE CHANGE

The Advocacy for Mental Health and Rehabilitation Sierra Leone (AMHRe-SL) joins the Bombali District Health Management Team (DHMT), the Government of Sierra Leone, security forces, families, communities, and all partners in celebrating the successful discharge of rehabilitated youths, now recognized as Ambassadors of Positive Change.
The ceremony, held at Teko Military Barracks, Phase One, brought together the Honourable Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs. Melrose Karminty; Brigade Commander Brigadier General PJ Sheriff (RSLAF); representatives of the Sierra Leone Police, Bombali DHMT, District Council, NPHA, religious leaders, parents, partners, and other stakeholders.
The occasion was a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when government institutions, communities, families, security forces, health professionals, and partners work together to address substance abuse and support recovery.
Key messages from the ceremony included:
👉🏽 Brigadier General PJ Sheriff described the discharge as a victory and encouraged the graduates to become true ambassadors of positive change and remain committed to a drug-free life.
👉🏽 CHO Fatmata Nata Thoronka, representing the DMO, recognized the collective efforts of the military, social workers, healthcare workers, and partners, emphasizing the importance of resilience and successful reintegration.
👉🏽 The Sierra Leone Police reaffirmed its commitment to community collaboration and continued support for efforts to prevent substance abuse.
👉🏽 Bombali District Council called for collective action to address drug-related harm and encouraged the graduates to remain committed to their recovery journey.
👉🏽 The National Public Health Agency (NPHA) highlighted the importance of prevention, awareness, treatment, rehabilitation, social support, law enforcement, and community engagement in addressing substance abuse.
The graduates also presented an educational drama highlighting the devastating consequences of substance abuse and the importance of making positive choices.
A Commitment to Reintegration
In her address, Hon. Minister Melrose Karminty reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to providing free rehabilitation services and appreciated all stakeholders contributing to the recovery and reintegration of young people affected by substance abuse.
She formally handed over the Ambassadors of Positive Change to relevant MDAs and partners for continued support, follow-up, and reintegration into their families and communities.
A representative of the graduates expressed appreciation to the Government, health workers, security forces, families, communities, and partners, while pledging their continued commitment to positive change.
AMHRe-SL believes that recovery does not end at discharge. It is the beginning of a new journey.
We therefore call on families, communities, institutions, and partners to embrace, support, and empower these young people as they rebuild their lives.
Together, we can promote recovery, restore hope, prevent substance abuse, and build healthier communities.
