‼️Grass to Grace Education Program: Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation Calls for Goodwill Support

Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation (BBHF), through its Grass to Grace Education Program, is intensifying efforts to provide educational and holistic support to less privileged children across Port Loko District, while appealing to individuals, philanthropists, institutions, and development partners to join the initiative. The program is designed to ensure that children from disadvantaged backgrounds are given the opportunity to access quality education, develop their talents, and build a better future. What started as a modest intervention has gradually evolved into a growing educational empowerment initiative, demonstrating the Foundation’s commitment to investing in children and young people as key drivers of sustainable community and national development.

The Grass to Grace Education Program was established in 2022, beginning with just three children from deprived communities in Port Loko District. Four years later, the program has expanded its reach and is currently providing educational support to ten less privileged children. Beyond school fees and educational materials, the Foundation has taken a comprehensive approach to the welfare of its beneficiaries. Four of the ten children are living under the direct care of the Foundation, which provides them with clothing, food, medical care, accommodation, educational support, guidance, and mentorship. This holistic intervention reflects the Foundation’s belief that education can not be separated from the basic welfare and protection of children.

As the number of children requiring assistance continues to increase, the management of the Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation has set an ambitious target of expanding the programme from ten (10) to fifteen (15) beneficiaries, adding five more less privileged children to the existing list. The Foundation recognises that many children possess the ability and determination to succeed academically but are constrained by poverty and difficult family circumstances. Through the Grass to Grace Education Program, BBHF seeks to remove some of these barriers and create a pathway through which vulnerable children can progress from primary to secondary education, with deserving beneficiaries eventually having the opportunity to access tertiary education through the Port Loko Student Basket Fund for Education Empowerment. Selection for continued support will be guided by academic commitment, strong performance, good character, and the determination to become responsible and productive citizens.

The Foundation has expressed profound appreciation to its existing partners, supporters, and individuals whose contributions have made the program possible. Special recognition goes to COFA and Abdul Karim Kamara (Stylish), Fruitful Healthcare, ALWAKA Charity Foundation, Berny’s Hope Foundation, and all other individuals and institutions that have contributed meaningfully to the educational empowerment of vulnerable children. Exciting Moments at the Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation: Celebrating the Power of Empowerment Through Education

True leadership is not simply about holding positions or occupying titles; it is about demonstrating the qualities, principles, and conduct that inspire others to become better versions of themselves. True leadership is also about empowering, guiding, and mentoring others to actualize their goals, dreams, and aspirations. Four years ago, I took a deliberate decision to support two of my young colleagues, Abu Bakarr Dainkeh and Mohamed Jalloh, to pursue tertiary education at the University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH), where they enrolled to pursue Bachelor of Science degrees in Development Studies. Today, 18th August 2026, as I watched these two young men sign out of the university after successfully completing their studies, I experienced an overwhelming sense of joy, pride, and fulfillment. The journey was not without challenges, particularly the responsibility of meeting their educational expenses, but seeing them make meaningful use of the opportunity provided to them has given me the true meaning of empowerment. Their achievement is a powerful reminder that when young people are given the right opportunities, guidance, and support, they can transform those opportunities into remarkable accomplishments. On this special occasion, I extend my warmest congratulations to Abu Bakarr Dainkeh and Mohamed Jalloh and wish them a successful graduation ceremony and a bright future ahead.

An exclusive visit by Public Trust Media Sierra Leone to Ray of Hope International Academy has revealed an ambitious transformation taking place at the institution, with the school positioning itself as a modern centre of excellence in education and a potential educational museum of innovation, technology and learning. During the engagement, the proprietor, Mr. Alhaji Kamara led Amb. Unisa Totti Fofanah, Chief Executive Officer of Public Trust Media Sierra Leone, on a comprehensive tour of the school compound and its ongoing development projects. The visit provided an opportunity to observe firsthand the institution's investments in infrastructure, teaching and learning facilities, technology, security, and the general welfare of pupils and teachers. Mr. Kamara made the call while delivering the keynote address at the Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation (BBHF) International Youth Day Conference 2026, held on Wednesday, 12th August 2026, at the Princess Amara Multipurpose Hall in Port Loko City. The conference attracted hundreds of young people from different backgrounds and provided a platform for meaningful conversations on youth leadership, community development, partnerships, and sustainable development.

Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation (BBHF) International Youth Day Conference 2026 has ended in a resounding success, bringing together more than 200 young people, emerging changemakers, senior leaders, development practitioners, media professionals, and community stakeholders for a day of meaningful dialogue and inspiration in Port Loko City. The conference was held on Wednesday, 12th August 2026, at the Princess Amara Multipurpose Hall, attracting young people from the Port Loko School of Nursing, Action Women Network, CIDO-SL, beneficiaries of the BBHF Annual Post-Secondary Internship and Free Computer Training Programmes both past and present, Online media practitioners, and a host of other young people from across the city. The approximately five-hour engagement created an important platform for young people to reflect on their experiences, share their contributions to community development, and interact directly with accomplished senior leaders under the theme, “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation Through Leadership and Sustainable Development.”

The conference featured the presence of several distinguished personalities, including Amb. Umuru Bundu Wurie- Resident Minister Northwest Region: Prof. Alpha Tejan Wurie- Renowned scholar, former minister, public health expert and Chancellor of Limkokwing University in Sierra Leone: the Chairman of the Sierra Leone Airport Authority; and Mr. Ibrahim Fatu Kamara- Executive Director of Action for Advocacy and Development Sierra Leone (AAD-SL). The senior changemakers, in turn, shared powerful stories from their personal and professional journeys, leaving young participants with valuable lessons on the importance of formal and informal education, responsible leadership, drug abuse prevention, personal discipline, community service, networking, and building meaningful multilateral relationships. Their presentations emphasized that leadership is not simply about holding positions but about demonstrating integrity, creating opportunities for others, solving problems, and making a positive contribution to society. The conference also provided young people with a clearer understanding of how education, partnerships, technology, civic engagement, and collaboration can be used as tools for sustainable development. Many young participants expressed excitement about the knowledge and perspectives gained from the engagement, noting that the experience challenged them to think beyond their immediate circumstances and aspire to become more responsible and impactful leaders within their communities and beyond.

The lead coordinator and executive director of the Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation, Amb. Unisa Totti Fofanah used the occasion to highlight the foundation's achievements, programs, youth empowerment initiatives, and future action plans. In a significant announcement, Amb. Fofanah officially pronounced that the annual event would henceforth be changed from the Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation International Youth Day Conference to the Umuru Bond Wurie International Youth Day Conference, in recognition of Amb Umuru Bundu Wurie's more than three decades of contribution to Sierra Leone and his continued commitment to empowering young people. The conference also featured an inspiring keynote address by Mr. Ibrahim Fatu Kamara, Executive Director of AAD-SL, who anchored his presentation on the conference theme, challenging young people to embrace leadership, strengthen partnerships, promote inclusive development, and position themselves as active contributors to national transformation. His address further reinforced the need for young people to move from being beneficiaries of development interventions to becoming architects and drivers of sustainable solutions.

The management of the Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation has expressed its profound appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the 2026 International Youth Day Conference. Special appreciation goes to the more than 200 young participants, senior changemakers, youth speakers, community stakeholders, media practitioners, and all individuals and institutions whose presence and contributions made the conference meaningful. The Foundation also extended special thanks to the Emauni Foundation and K. Lunsar Computer Training Center for providing the event T-shirts and supporting the successful organization of the program.
