Somali Midwives Association (SOMA) proudly participated in the commemoration of the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula alongside the Federal Ministry of Health and key health stakeholders in Somalia.

The high-level event was attended by the minister of health, State Minister of the Federal Ministry of Health, the Deputy Minister of Youth, Members of Parliament, Directors from the FMOH, hospital directors, international organizations, UN agencies, health actors, civil society organizations, midwives, and other distinguished participants.

During the event, SOMA’s Deputy Executive Director addressed the gathering and emphasized that prevention of obstetric fistula starts with strengthening maternal healthcare services and supporting midwives across Somalia. She highlighted that empowering skilled midwife, improving access to quality maternal care, and increasing community awareness can significantly contribute to the prevention and reduction of obstetric fistula and maternal suffering.

SOMA remains committed to advocating for safe motherhood, respectful maternity care, and the wellbeing of women and girls across Somalia. Together, we can end obstetric fistula and ensure safer childbirth for every mother.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration, reviewing progress, sharing challenges, and improving coordination efforts to better serve the community.
