Healthcare financing remains one of the biggest barriers to access in Somalia, creating an opportunity for market actors to collaborate on solutions that reduce the financial burden of illness. During the Kaaliye Care Co-Creation Workshop, Baraka Insurance, our intervention partner, brought together leading Somali financial institutions, including MyBank Limited, Idman Community Bank, and Premier Bank, to explore how affordable, Sharia-compliant health insurance can be embedded within existing financial ecosystems.
The discussions reinforced a growing appetite for innovative health financing mechanisms that help households plan for healthcare costs rather than face them unexpectedly. By leveraging Somaliaโs expanding banking channels and strengthening partnerships with healthcare providers, Kaaliye Care offers an inclusive, affordable safety net designed for the mass market.
For banks, providers, insurers, and development partners, this represents a practical pathway to lower out-of-pocket spending and improve access to quality care. Strengthening health systems requires more than healthcare delivery alone; it requires collaboration that makes healthcare financially accessible to everyone.
