At 12 weeks of pregnancy, a normal Nuchal Translucency (NT) measurement is generally between 1.0 mm and 2.5 mm.
Any measurement less than 3.0 mm is considered to be within the normal range. An NT measurement of 3.5 mm or higher is considered increased.
The NT scan measures the fluid-filled space at the back of the baby's neck. It is used as a screening tool to assess the risk of chromosomal abnormalities like Down syndrome.
It is very important to know that the NT measurement is not a diagnostic test. A single measurement outside this range does not mean your baby has a defect, but rather indicates a higher chance, prompting the need for further evaluation. The exact risk is calculated by your doctor using a combination of factors, including:
The exact measurement of the NT
The size/gestational age of your baby (Crown-Rump Length)
Your maternal age( iminyaka yalomake)
The results of your first-trimester maternal blood tests (such as PAPP-A and free beta-hCG)
The presence or absence of the baby's nasal bone
