Native to Mexico and Guatemala, they were a staple food for the ancient Aztecs and Mayans. In fact, โchiaโ is the ancient Mayan word for โstrengthโ.
These little guys are packed with antioxidants, omega3, and they have a high content of fiber and protein that will make you feel good and help lose weight if needed.
They are also highly versatile. They can be soaked and added to porridge, made into pudding, used in baked goods, or simply sprinkled on top of salads or yogurt.
Our favourite (perfect to start the day and also to cool down with this heat): add one teaspoon of chia seeds in a glass of water and freshly squeezed lemon, and drink first thing in the morning.
Allow for the seeds to soften and acquire a jelly-like consistency for about 5 minutes before drinking.
