The recent visit to Khammouane Province Hospital, performing 11 cases of EGD abd colonoscopy, we found 1 sigmoid cancer, 2 gastric ulcer and Cameron ulcer. We cut the juvenile polyp for a young boy who bled for many months and then, gave a lecture about sessile serrated polyp and management ( we found one SSAP this time). We also had a chance to discuss about the blue print if the new endoscopy room which will be located in the new building. We also had dinner with the executive team of the Khammouane province to discuss about the hospital’s development plan. We agreed to have another 3-years MOU signalment in our next visit in June2026 by our president. On the way back to the airport, we donated some medical neccesities for them too. Thanks to the pharmacist who gave us the ‘ donation price’ everytime we bought anything overthere. Thai people always very kind. 🙂

A 5 years old, Laotian boy, who had been suffering from bleeding per re**um for 7-8 months. His sigmoidscopy showed a 1.5 cm polyp(likely Juvenile polyp) and was removed successfully in this visit. His mother was very happy that her beloved son was treated by endoscopic approach. He woke up (after propofol sedation) without any pain but very hungry (from overnight fasting). Without this ‘Khammouane Endoscopy Center’ , he might be suffering even longer, or had to travel more than 300 km to achieve this kind of treatment. Just only this one similar case is ‘worth ‘ for our foundation to push more effort and to continue . To help the patients and any hospital which in need.

Feb,26,2026: One day-trip for the first few diagnostic EUS cases in Lao PDR!! Mittapab hospital is the recent hospital that we start our reach-out activities. Fortunately the EUS scopes, which were donated 7 years ago, are working very well. Let’s give a big round of applause to staffs from Fuji Thailand** , who helped us for training all the endoscopy nurses at this hospital to perform a standard reprocessing. After the clinical cases, I gave the academic lecture for the EUS beginners about basic physics of ultrasound, EUS in clinical practice and how to interpret EUS Imagings. There were 4 doctors attended this project(3 from Mittapab and 1 from Setthathirat hospital). We will continue this monthly training and services, to maximize the benefit for the Laos patients in the future. See you again next month. 🙂

Just a short report while waiting for boarding from Pisanulok. These 2 days visit to Nakornthai Crawn Prince hospital passed by very quickly! After dr. Varayu give a lecture about non - variceal GI bleeding in the morning, we separated in to 2 groups. The first group went to endoscopy room for 6 cases of EGD (for esophageal varices screening ) had one case EVL as primary prophylaxis. Another group went to OR and finished 4 cases of large CBD stones (that need the intraductal EHL to break them). We completed all the cases. For today we supervised the junior surgeons performed ERCP for 3 more cases with 1 case of EUS with FNA (advanced pancreatic malignancy). Then. We rushed (again) back to catch the plane at 6 PM. Nakornthai district is 100 km away from the city of Pisanulok with wonderful mountainous scenery. There are many nice resorts and tourist attractions too. Hahaha, unfortunately , we just never had any chance to visit them!

We acknowledged the objective of Mahosod ‘s GI unit; which set a long -term-goal to be ‘ An International Endoscopy Training Center of tge country’ and will try our best to support them! We also visited Mittaphab Hospital to check out the EUS (Endoscopic UltraSound) machine which was donated since2019. We will collaborate with Setthathirat and Mittaphab hospital to start EUS service ( Diagnosis and therapeutic procedures) for the patients in Laos very soon, altogether with the supports fron Fujifilm, Thailand. So, the more advanced endoscopic procedures will be feasible for the local people soon!! 🙂 What a great news!!! You can check it out, how busy our team will be in this year 2026 at a glance. The recent visit to Khummouane District hospital, LAPD. This is the short comment from dr. Siriporn who is an active gastroenterologist of GEDF who joined us this year. “We visited Khammouane Hospital in Thakhek, Laos, from 8–9 Dec 2025. The team once again showed great hospitality. Dr. Dao's polypectomy skills had noticeably improved; we performed three colonoscopies with polypectomy. After a full day of work, we also visited Tham Pa Seuam—a striking limestone cave with a clear river flowing through it—which was both beautiful and memorable.”

This Khammouane district hospital visit during Oct6-7, 2025. Apart of me and our new endoscopic nurse(khun Ann), we were thankful to Dr. Napat who is a dermatologist, who were willing to share her expertise with the medical doctors in Laos, including OPD service. After she spent the whole day, treated 52 patients, she flew back to BKK on the same day. We trained 3 doctors in this visit; one surgeon and two internists for the hands-on EGD, colonoscopy and EMR polypectomy. One case of colon cancer also diagnosed and the surgeon who joined the training will taking care of this patient in the future. We also had a chance to join the local event; Illuminated Boat Procession or Lai Ruea Fai Festival too. Such a joyful time!
