Breathing with the trees is a mindful and grounding practice that involves consciously synchronizing your breath with the natural, rhythmic movement of trees. This practice helps reduce stress and fosters a sense of connection with nature. By mentally or physically exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide, you enhance relaxation and awareness of your interdependence with the environment.

Here’s how you can practice breathing with trees:

1. Locate a Tree: Find a calm, quiet place with a mature tree to sit near or lean against. Ideally, choose a large tree with moving branches.

2. Initial Grounding: Close your eyes and feel your connection to the ground. Focus on slow, deep breaths.

3. Synchronize Breath: Inhale deeply as you observe the branches swaying upward. Imagine the tree taking in your carbon dioxide. Exhale slowly as the branches settle or as you receive oxygen. Focus on the pause between breaths.

4. Focus on Exchange: Consciously think about the exchange of air. Acknowledge the mutual relationship between humans and trees.

5. Repeat: Perform this practice for 10–15 cycles, or simply spend 10 minutes relaxing and “feeling into” the presence of the tree.
