Every card in this deck is an encounter you’ve already had; The Stone, The Druid, The OG.. three out of 70+ characters. Somewhere between card game, modern mythology, and spiritual tool that unlocks the higher self - these are a few illustrations from the HH deck. I’ve been working on it consciously for the better part of two years - basically anywhere I can sit down to draw. All over Thailand, Indonesia, a few cities in Japan, multiple places in the US. They are playing card size: I take a few choice tools with me whenever I travel and progress from whichever level I was working on when I stopped. They are hand-drawn. I think it’s important to actually state what’s AI and what’s not. (I made a card about that.)
My curiosity towards different cultures and religions is spread across 70+ cards. The symbols you can see in certain cards tell you which level you’ve drawn. When you pull something without a clear symbol - well, you have to look a little bit deeper. There are other indicators (color, tone, landscape). That’s kind of the whole point - to look deeper - consciously but also with a sense of curiosity. We’re forgetting how important it is do that. I took a lot of inspiration from tarot, especially from Kim Krans, Joseph Campbell’s Heroes Journey, and honestly - just an exploration of what is going on in the world. The goal is to remind of you that inner-guide that exists in you already - that knows. At the same time, a big part of that process- and often times uncomfortable part - is defining what you are not. That’s why I don’t shy away from darker imagery - characters that other people might find scary. What you find scary, might be a protective spirit in another culture. I’ve really enjoyed working on it and I’m going to continue to work on it. A big thank you to the 1st round of beta-testers. Your feedback was super helpful. Maybe it’s time for another round. And just to be clear, Meta you do not have permission to use my art to train your AI models. Please and thank you. I’m still on the fence about AI but I can adamantly say it has no place in traditional fine art. Painting, drawing, sculpture - these are human practices. The hand matters.
