Somatic Movement Project

Somatic Movement Project Somatic Movement Project is a home for Embodiment, Connection & Empowerment! SMP strives to open dialogue, push boundaries and build community.

The Somatic Movement Project is a resource for integrating somatic work into your life. We educate, study and explore movement and bodywork modalities, with a special focus on The Feldenkrais Method, that deepen awareness, provoke curiosity and promote health and wellbeing. It continually evolves from the belief that embodiment is a state of being that can liberate us from our self-imposed limitations in movement, behavior, emotion and thought.

“Emotion shapes posture and posture shapes emotion.”

We often think of posture as something physical something to correct or improve. But posture is also a reflection of how we feel.

Notice what happens when you feel confident or at ease. Your breathing changes. Your spine lengthens. Movement feels lighter.

Now notice a moment of stress or worry. The body responds just as quickly shoulders tighten, breathing becomes shallow, everything draws inward.

This is not something to fix. It is something to become curious about.

When you gently shift how you sit, stand or move even in small ways you can begin to influence how you feel.

Posture is not just a result of emotion. It is also a doorway back to ease.

Only a few weeks to IFW when we’ll have lots of new lessons for you to try. Watch this space!!

Freedom Begins With a Step. When liberation finally came, healing did not rush in all at once. It arrived softly. Carefully. Sometimes, it arrived as a single step forward.

In the days after the camps were freed, medics encouraged survivors to try short walks. Bodies weakened by hunger, illness, and years of exhaustion trembled with every movement. Some leaned on one another. Some held makeshift canes. Others simply paused, gathering courage before moving again. But this walking was different.

For the first time in years, no one was forcing them to move. No shouted commands. No roll calls. No fear waiting at the end of the path. Each step was chosen. Each step was free.

What had once been used as cruelty—marching, standing, endless labor—slowly transformed into something sacred. Survivors were reclaiming their bodies. Deciding when to move. Choosing where to go.

Feeling space belong to them again. Walking became more than exercise. It became a quiet declaration.
With every careful step, they were saying: I am still here. My body is mine. Survival is turning into life again.
Those first unsteady walks marked a powerful turning point.

Movement was no longer about endurance alone—it was about dignity, agency, and the return of self. Freedom, in its purest form, was being practiced one step at a time: the right to move without fear.
Step by step, they were not just rebuilding strength.

They were learning how to live again. Sometimes freedom doesn’t arrive loudly. Sometimes it begins with the courage to take one quiet step forward.

Embodiment is feeling oneself directly, without the constant narration or interpretation of our
thinking mind.
This embodiment has no judgment, no commentary from an inner belief, and no filters, but rather presents the raw data of the body “as is.”
We can call this present-moment body awareness—direct
communication from our deeper self or embodiment.
This is a moment in which we are not bound by past or
future, and can live in the present moment. We often describe this simple yet elusive sense as coming home,
being close to oneself, or simply here.

Website got a facelift :)

Somatic Movement starts by noticing where you're holding tension in your body that's causing you to sit or move in ways that aren't serving you and then learning how to let it go
