I heard a mother talking about her fear of the future, wondering how she might prepare her child for a world where machines and technology can outpace humans…

And afraid that her child might worry existentially, wondering why they are here, and if they even matter…

We cannot afford to lose touch with what makes us beautifully, and wonderfully human.

This life holds so much more for us than fulfilling a script of marriage and corporate ladders, of homeownership and finally feeling “free” when we retire.

when we take the time to settle the troubled mind, to escape the treadmill of competition, and to stop waiting for a validation that comes externally… When we re-submerge ourselves in the present, in our senses, in our rich and textured feeling and emotional journey of this complex and confusing and colorful human life…

We just might find that the Self we have been trying to prove, can dissolve into being at one with the Earth to Witchett has always belonged.

mindfulness is a skill.

and like all skills, it takes practice and repetition.

although it is a natural superpower, it no longer comes naturally for most of us.

society, global culture, and daily life is filled with rush, stress, judgment, decision-making, and so much more.

we cannot lose our ability to slow down, tune in, and mindfully observe; for within this, lies great freedom.

freedom from our mental chatter, our habituations, our automatic actions and reactions, our vices and daily tension, even our most re-played conflicts.

through the power of observation and purposeful attention, we create a space around moments of experience.

and in that space, as Viktor Frankl reminds us, lies our freedom.

the way we show up for our children... is often the way we were (or weren't) shown up for.

these five questions, developed by attachment expert Eli Harwood, are an invitation to reflect on the relationship you offer your child...

but sit with them a little longer, and you may find they're also asking something about your partnership, your other close relationships, and the tender way you speak to yourself.

secure attachment isn't just something children need, it's something we're all inwardly longing for -- and something we can learn.

whether we are parenting a child, reparenting ourselves, or trying to become an actually emotionally mature adult...

save this, come back to it, and if something feels resonant, my door is always open. 🤍

1-1 private coaching available, group courses coming soon.

mindfulness means:
paying attention
(on purpose)
to the present moment
with curiosity

different teachers use different final nouns — with curiosity, with kindness, with non-judgement, with loving care, with acceptance…

all of these point to a state of receptivity, of being with an open mind and heart.

and just this simple shift from your usual lens creates a world of subtle and amazing change.

which feels right for you, right now?

what if I told you that the rest you need is a lot slower than you imagine?

that there is no hack to replace the quietude that our spirit is seeking;

let the sunlight fall through your window, and a droplet of water sing its small momentary song, and be still enough to notice — to let it in.

turn off the music, the autoplay, the vibrating push notifications. turn down the screen brightness, have a few less conversations, definitely don’t make a daily habit of the news.

turn down the lights after sunset, get horizontal. lay on the floor.

most of us are in states of chronic overwhelm and overstimulation.

do less, it’s a matter of life or living.

giving out the permission slips I never received.

to be witnessed in stillness,
slowly.

Not achieving, pushing, no hustle, no reason —

Simply because you exist.

Rest is not something you need to earn.

Go softly,
And if you can’t yet do it for yourself,
Do it for your loved ones.
And if you can’t yet do it for them,
Do it for the Earth.

one of the biggest mistakes we are making in life, is in fact a lost art —

learn how to slow down in order to feel what’s necessary; it’s so easy a five year old can do it!

(but then again, children are much more brilliant and mindful than us adults sometimes!)

steal a smile, seriously.

mudita is one of the ‘four humble abodes’ or heart practices in Buddhism. it is the practice of being happy for someone else’s happiness; joyful for their joy.

in today’s global landscape - competitive, with a scarcity mindset, pressurized - it can feel like a totally foreign idea.

sympathetic joy is the best translation, but polyamorous people have coined the similar term ‘compersion’.

start by practicing with the people you’re closest to. then gradually expand outward, to your neighbors, online friends, and the stranger pushing the baby carriage.

happiness is not a limited resource. just take a look around.

if you’re interested in learning the art and practice of mudita, along with other forms of mindfulness and meditation, DM me.

get quiet and listen.

when the mind, worries, planning, judgment, overthinking, fear, grasping for control all can settle —

what emerges are the deeper whispers of the heart and intuition

within all of us is an already perfect guide

we must simply learn what gets in the way.

although there is much about Steve Jobs with which I disagree, the sentiment here behind his quote, I have also discovered to be true.

if you are ready to investigate the whispers of your own heart, or learn how to tune into the messages of your honest intuition, send me a message — any time.

yours in heartful exploration,
Katie
