Natural Selection’s organic free-range duck eggs are laid by a local breed. This breed is perfect for producing great-tasting eggs. Their eggs are smaller in size in comparison to regular duck eggs, as the birds are not too large themselves!
At the heart of our philosophy is the welfare of our ducks. Our ducks are happy and healthy as they are kept in small flocks of less than 20, fed an organic diet free from GM, chemical or hormone additives, and have plenty of access to the outdoors, where they can behave naturally – roaming, scratching, searching for food in their natural habitat, and getting into the ponds to clean themselves and play in the water, which is absolutely essential for their health.
From their translucent, ivory white eggshells to their light, creamy yolks, these organic duck eggs are exceptionally good for your health, as they contain twice the protein, twice the vitamins and minerals, and twice the omega-3's and 6's of chicken eggs.
Our happy ducks lay their eggs in their natural cycles, therefore availability may not be constant.
Eggs are laid with a nearly invisible natural protective coating on the outside of the eggshell – commonly known as the “egg bloom” or the “egg cuticle”. The cuticle prevents bacteria from entering the egg and forms its first line of defence against infection and helps to keep unfertilised eggs fresh longer, preventing both the loss of moisture and the introduction of contamination.
Natural Selection’s organic free-range duck eggs are packed and sold with the egg cuticle and can last for 2 weeks at cool room temperature with no direct sunlight. Fresh eggs shouldn't be washed until just before they are used.
