Faith Beyond Borders: 38 Europeans Shave Their Heads and Don White Robes in Preparation for Ordination at Wat Phra Dhammakaya Belgium

Yesterday (12 June 2026), Phra Kru Bhavanabuddhidhamma (Veera Veerandharo), Abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya Boroås, Kingdom of Sweden, and Vice President of the Union of Thai Buddhist Missionary Monks in Europe, Region 3, presided over the hair-cutting ceremony for participants in the 11th European International Dhammadayada Ordination Program at Wat Phra Dhammakaya Belgium in the city of Liedekerke, Kingdom of Belgium.

The 2026 European International Dhammadayada Ordination Program is organized by the Sangha of 30 Wat Phra Dhammakaya centers throughout Europe. The program welcomes qualified men from across the continent who are sincerely interested in studying Buddhism in depth and who meet the requirements of the Buddhist monastic discipline.

Prior to ordination, all participants undertake the Eight Precepts, practice meditation, and train in moral discipline for 14 days. During this period, they also learn and rehearse the traditional Pali ordination chants in preparation for entering the monastic life. The training is conducted at Wat Phra Dhammakaya Belgium in Liedekerke, located approximately 30 kilometers west of Brussels, with support from meditation centers and Kalyanamitta networks throughout Europe. This marks the 11th consecutive year of the program.

Phra Kru Palad Bhavanawat (Prakongsak Satipañño), Abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya Korsør Lystskov, Kingdom of Denmark, revealed that:

“This year, 38 participants from 13 countries have joined the program, namely Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, the Czech Republic, France, Austria, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Italy, Norway, and Thailand.

The ordination ceremony will take place on 14 June 2026. Following ordination, all Dhammadayadas will continue their study of the Dhamma and Vinaya, together with intensive meditation practice, until 27 June 2026.

After completing the program, those who wish to continue in the monastic life will receive ongoing guidance and support as newly ordained monks, enabling them to become a source of strength in spreading the Buddha’s teachings among local communities throughout Europe.”
