It’s World Music Therapy Week!

This week (April 10th - 15th, 2026), Harmonies & Healing celebrates the work of music therapists in Trinidad & Tobago, our region, and internationally.

You might be wondering, what IS music therapy? Music therapy uses music as a clinical tool to achieve specific goals. Music therapists use evidence-based methods to treat their clients. They’re also trained to work with doctors, social workers, occupational, physical and speech therapists, and other medical personnel to help people with a wide range of conditions and ailments.

Recently I had the pleasure of appearing on Trinidad and Tobago Television (TTT) to speak about music therapy and the work I do in the Tobago space.

What stood out to me most was the way I was introduced by Virmala Balkaran .It was clear she had taken the time to truly understand what music therapy is and the impact it can have. As a music therapist in a space where the profession is seldom respected, there is something incredibly meaningful about feeling seen in your work; and I truly felt that.
