A beloved customer ordered some 10 ml decants of her husband’s favourite perfume as a birthday present for him. In true Natika style I included a couple of complimentary 2 ml decants for him to “Date” as Christmas and other occasions for gifting will always exist.

I sell sampler sets because this is how people can truly discover what perfumes they love, what loves them back, what gets them compliments, what lasts on them forever and what is not going to trigger a migraine or an allergic reaction in them. The proof of the perfume is in the wearing.

I do have some customers who are now taking advantage of my kindness and expecting 2 ml decants for free with the promise to return to buy even a larger decant if they love the perfume but they have not kept their end of the bargain.

In fact they have not even had the decency to tell me that they “dated” my free sample and bought the perfume elsewhere.

However, realistically I don’t need these people…they are not customers…they are users.

So I am standing on business because I can afford to lose people who have no value for me or my efforts.

There is a cost to my sample pack and if you require delivery there is a cost for the services of ODeliver.

If you choose not to “date” perfumes and blind buy based on hype or whatever and then you don’t like the perfume or it does not resonate on you then that sounds like a you problem.

There are many things I am willing to turn a blind eye to but I am not willing to tolerate disrespect, lack of clear communication and users. I am setting my boundaries because the free sample can go to a paying customer who continually gives me business.

Also when you “date” a sample from me and then choose to buy it at a kiosk in a foreign mall or Duty Free because it is US $50.00 cheaper than what I have it for and then you realize that it is a fake fragrance that you bought, please don’t call or message me to tell me about it because there is nothing that I can do and you made a conscious decision to purchase where you felt comfortable. Call the store that you bought it at and let them know the perfume you bought doesn’t perform like the sample you had and hopefully they have a solution for you.

The truth hurts as well as people always expecting freeness. I am running a Micro business not a charity.

Happy September…my unofficial “last quarter” begins today because it literally 3 months to December 01st and the start of Christmas.

We are 115 days from Christmas 2026 and the official 100 days to Christmas begins on September 16th.

Now that we have all the important dates listed, let’s reflect on yesterday’s online meeting which was a great meeting but make no mistake that the only reason I got that meeting is because I am friends with the company’s COO.

My stellar reputation, my knowledge about perfumes and nothing else mattered in securing that meeting because when my friend the COO asked a favour of a colleague of his the answer will always be yes.

If it sounds like the way we operate in the Caribbean, it’s how the world operates. Your network is your net worth.

I want to build a brand…I want to be the Caribbean’s equivalent of Harrods, Nordstrom, Libertine Parfumerie, Australia and in order to build this brand it takes planning and proving to international partners that I am worth my salt.

There is no one who is a Caribbean version of Harrods, Libertine or Nordstrom…so the dream is huge but the world is a global village and reputation and integrity matters for brands because they want a partner they can trust and customers want a retailer who will deliver the total experience to them.

I am up for the challenge because we deserve the very best here on this side of the world. Are you coming along for the journey?

Happy 64th Independence Day Trinidad and Tobago and happy 24th Wedding Anniversary to my hubby and I. The celebrations don’t have anything to do with one another (just maybe my hubby lost his independence on Independence Day🤣).

Nevertheless it’s a day of celebration and reflection because each year is an opportunity for growth and the setting of new goals to achieve.

While I don’t have any specific impact on Trinidad and Tobago’s plans, as an ordinary citizen I am doing my best in my industry and trying to represent on a global stage. This is no easy feat because we come from such a small twin-island republic in the Caribbean but what we don’t have in size we make up for in heart.

I wish every citizen a wonderful holiday and God’s choicest blessings for many more blessed years to come.

It’s a bit of a working day for me today as I am having an online meeting with a global perfume house from down under…a meeting that we have been trying to schedule for the past three months but nothing happens before its time. Wish me luck as if this meeting plans out the way I hope it would then it will be the best present 💝 for the month.

The perfume world is very confusing and contradictory in my opinion. It’s suppose to be a marriage between Science and Art but we prefer when people act on emotion because that’s how we get them to part with their money.

It’s probably both a blessing and a curse that I live in what is deemed a third world country because the majority of our population cannot afford to spend on emotions.

This monetary constraint has made me go back to the drawing board and become creative in how to assist everyone I come into contact with to be able to enjoy the most luxurious perfumes in the world without the price tag.

It takes a lot of planning, patience and commitment to show up everyday but in the end it is worth it because so many people depend on me for perfume advice and guidance.

As August comes to an end and we enter the “ber” months, I am looking forward to working with everyone to manifest the Christmas they are dreaming of…
