🇹🇹 On Independence Day, I find myself thinking about what independence really means.
For me, it has always been more than a nation governing itself. It is the right of every citizen to live with peace, dignity and choice, on their own terms, in their own land. During my training in palliative medicine, I learned that some of the most important care does not happen within hospital walls. It happens at home, surrounded by the people who matter most.
Returning to Trinidad and Tobago, I saw a gap I could not ignore. Families navigating serious illness without adequate support. An ageing population with fewer choices than they deserved. Geography quietly determining the quality of care people received.
That is why I built LivHealth. Healthcare should never be a privilege. The ability to heal at home, with dignity and the right support around you, that is what independence looks like to me.
Happy Independence Day, Trinidad and Tobago. 🇹🇹
With love always,
Dr. Chelsea Garcia
