Fix the foundation, fix the movement. 🦶🏋️‍♂️

When this client first came to me, they were heavily compensating during the sit-to-squat movement by leaning too far forward, leading to persistent back discomfort.

❌ BEFORE
A narrow foot base (often caused by restrictive shoes) means less surface area and poor stability. This limits glute engagement, forcing the client to lean forward heavily to compensate—putting unnecessary strain on the lower back 💥.

✅ AFTER
By introducing Soft Tissue Release and utilizing Toe Spacers, we opened up the foot space and restored natural toe splay.

THE RESULT?
A wider, more stable "tripod foot" foundation. This instantly unlocked better glute activation, improved their overall alignment, eliminated the forward lean, and ultimately took the pressure off their lower back 🙌.

THE TOE SPACER
Fab product! Another satisfied customer. Thank you ☺️

THE TOE SPACER

⚕️📝REHAB DIAIRIES - Rebuilding Foundations📝⚕️

Behind the scenes of helping others rehab, I’ve been quietly doing the work on myself. ✨

For a while now, I’ve been intensely focused on rehabbing my spine and hips with a big goal in mind: getting back to the things I love, like trail running, yoga, and artistic swimming.

Along the way, I had a massive realization.

Beyond the usual posture correction foundations, I didn’t realize just how much of our strength and foundation comes down to our feet. 🦶💥

In this video, I’m breaking down a multi-movement strength exercise: a lunge, heel lift, pivot, and overhead press (with ankle weights for that extra resistance).

It’s the perfect sequence to showcase how a narrower foot base compares to a wider one, and exactly how that shift affects your stability.

Building that rock-solid ankle stability is everything—it’s what keeps us injury-free and ready to tackle those uneven trail runs.

Progression takes time, but we’re building from the ground up! 🏔️💪

🦶 The most neglected part of your workout? Your feet.

Think about it: your feet and ankles are the only contact point between your body and the ground when you walk, run, or squat. Yet, they are usually the most ignored muscle group in the gym.

When your ankles are stiff and your feet are weak, a chain reaction happens up your entire body. Your knees cave in, your hips compensate, and your lower back takes the hit. Building a strong foundation from the ground up changes everything.

🧠 Why foot and ankle strength is a game-changer:

Better Balance: Stronger feet keep you centered and reactive on uneven surfaces.

More Power in Lifts: A stable base allows you to transfer energy efficiently from the floor when sprinting or lifting weights.

Less Joint Pain: Mobile ankles absorb impact, taking the stress off your knees and lower back.

Try adding these simple drills from my Better Ankle & Feet Programme to your daily routine to start waking up those muscles.

🦵 Let’s Talk Knee Anatomy: A Guided Tour

The knee is one of the most commonly injured joints, but how well do you actually know its surface anatomy?

Swipe through for a quick masterclass on how to locate the key structures keeping this joint stable!

➡️What you’re seeing:

🔹 BONES & NODES: Patella, Tibial Tuberosity, Lateral Tibial Condyle, and Head of the Fibula.

🔹 THE SPACES: Medial and lateral joint lines.

🔹 THE SOFT TISSUE: The Re**us Femoris muscle attaching via the Patellar Tendon, the Pes Anserinus, and the core stabilizing ligaments.

💡THE GOLDEN RULE OF KNEE PAIN

Look above and below.

Because the knee is held together primarily by a web of ligaments and tendons, it is highly sensitive to forces outside its control.

If your client has a tracking issue or pain, always check the hip and the foot.

Dysfunction there regularly funnels straight into the knee.Understanding this architecture is the secret weapon to unlocking better movement patterns and lasting pain relief.

Let’s talk about the science of gentle touch. 🔬✨

It’s easy to think that tight quads need heavy, deep tissue work to release. But your fascia is highly innervated, meaning it is packed with sensory receptors that listen to how you touch the skin.

This slow, gentle glide is designed to stimulate Ruffini receptors. Because they are sensitive to slow tangential forces, this specific technique sends a calming signal directly to the nervous system, dropping local tension without causing the body to guard or tense up against pain.

Different pressure = different receptors stimulated = entirely different physiological outcomes.

Treat your fascia like a negotiation, not a battle! 🤝

The Copenhagen Plank is an effective exercise for developing core stability and pelvic strength, making it especially beneficial for runners. 🏃‍♂️💪

By shifting the primary anchor point of a standard side plank to an elevated surface, this movement directly targets the adductors (inner thighs), obliques, and deep core musculature.

🎯 Key Benefits for Runners:

✅ENHANCED PELVIS STABILITY: Strong adductors work continuously with the glutes to stabilize the pelvis with every step. This minimizes lateral hip drop, keeping your running gait symmetrical and aligned.

✅INJURY PREVENTION: Improving strength in the inner thighs and core directly reduces the risk of common runner overuse injuries, including knee strain, lower-back discomfort, and groin pulls.

✅IMPROVED RUNNING EFFICIENCY: A stable pelvis ensures that the force you produce is transferred straight into forward momentum, rather than being wasted on side-to-side torso movement.

This helps maintain a more efficient stride over long distances.

✅BETTER SHOCK ABSORPTION: Developing the deep core and hip stabilizers helps your body better absorb the repetitive, high-impact forces of pavement running.

🏋️‍♂️ Are Flat Feet Ruining Your Squats & Runs? (Try This 60-Second Test!)

If your knees cave in during squats or your shins throb after a run, your arches might be crashing.

🛑 Visual arch checks don't tell the whole story. You need to test how your foot handles your actual body weight.

Enter: The Navicular Drop Test.

🚨 Why you need to do this:Your foot is your body's shock absorber. If your arch collapses completely when you stand, you lose power, leak energy, and put your joints at massive risk.

💥 The Chain Reaction of Overpronation (Arch Collapse):

When your arch flattens out too much, it forces your entire leg to twist inward.

This triggers a nasty chain reaction:

Feet & Shins: Leads to agonizing plantar fasciitis and brutal shin splints.

Knees: Causes your knees to cave inward (valgus collapse), tearing up your kneecaps during heavy lifts.

Hips & Back: Tilts your pelvis out of alignment, causing mysterious lower back tightness that won't go away.

🛠️ How to test yourself at home:

1️⃣ Sit & Mark: Sit in a chair with your feet flat. Find the bony bump on the inside of your ankle/foot (about two inches below your ankle bone). Mark it with a pen.

2️⃣ Measure 1: Hold an index card or paper flat on the floor next to your foot. Mark the height of that pen dot.

3️⃣ Stand Up: Stand naturally with your weight evenly distributed on both feet.

4️⃣ Measure 2: Mark the new, lower position of that same pen dot on your card.

5️⃣ Check the Gap: Measure the distance between your two marks in millimeters (mm).

📊 Your Score Breakdown:

Green Light (Normal): 5mm to 9mm. Your feet have healthy, natural spring!

Red Light (Overpronation): Over 10mm. Your arches are collapsing under pressure and need strengthening.

Rigid Foot (Underpronation): Under 4mm. Your feet are like bricks and aren't absorbing any shock.

Drop your score in the comments below! 👇
