🍰🍁 PECAN PRALINE CAKE 🍁🍰
If you love the buttery, caramelized flavor of New Orleans pralines, this cake is your dream dessert! Soft, spiced cake layers are saturated with a warm, velvety praline glaze that soaks deep into the crumb, creating a dessert that stays moist for days.
Pouring half of the warm praline topping onto the cake while it is still warm from the oven allows the rich butter and brown sugar syrup to seep right inside!
INGREDIENTS
The Praline Batter:
1 box (15.25 oz) yellow or butter cake mix
1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
4 large eggs, room temperature
1 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
The Caramel Praline Glaze & Topping:
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups pecans, coarsely chopped
1 cup powdered sugar
INSTRUCTIONS
Prep and Bake Cake: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, vanilla pudding mix, eggs, water, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Pour into pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
Make the Praline Sauce: While the cake bakes, melt 1 cup of butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in brown sugar and evaporated milk. Bring to a gentle boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves and sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and chopped pecans.
Poke and Soak: As soon as the cake comes out of the oven, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the top of the cake.
Finish Glaze and Pour: Whisk the 1 cup of powdered sugar into the warm praline sauce until smooth. Immediately pour the entire warm, nut-studded praline topping evenly over the hot cake, letting it sink into the holes and cool.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a hot cup of coffee!
