It is an independent volunteer-led organization with 20 branches and more than 4,000 active members.

🌟 MEET MAGRETH JOHN MAKWEGA — THE FINANCIAL STEWARD BEHIND THE MISSION

Behind every strong organization is a system of accountability, integrity, and sound financial management. 💙

Meet Magreth John Makwega, TAMA’s Finance and Administration Manager, who has dedicated 13 years to serving the Tanzania Midwives Association.

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA(T)) with a Master of Science in Project Planning and Management (MPPM), Magreth brings expertise in financial management, governance, donor compliance, budgeting, reporting, and institutional strengthening.

But for Magreth, finance is more than numbers.

It is about accountability. Sustainability. Trust. And ensuring every resource supports meaningful impact.

Through her strategic oversight, she helps strengthen TAMA’s financial and administrative systems, supports donor-funded programmes, and contributes to the sustainability of an organization working to advance midwifery and public health in Tanzania.

🌟 MEET MARTHA GERALD RIMOY — ADVANCING MIDWIFERY, STRENGTHENING LIVES 🌟

For over a decade, Martha Gerald Rimoy has been part of the TAMA journey—bringing knowledge, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to strengthening midwifery in Tanzania. 💙

Since joining TAMA in 2013, Martha has served with a clear purpose: to empower midwives, strengthen professional practice, and contribute to better care for mothers and newborns.

As TAMA’s Midwifery Technical Advisor, she brings extensive expertise in midwifery education, maternal and newborn health, capacity building, mentorship, research, advocacy, and health systems strengthening.

Her journey is backed by strong academic and professional experience in nursing, midwifery, public health, and education, including studies at Aga Khan University, the University of Manchester, and the University of Nottingham.

From supporting training and professional development to contributing to programmes, technical resources, advocacy, and national priorities, Martha’s work continues to help shape a stronger future for midwifery.

❤️ MEET MZEE MAX — A TRUE TAMA FAMILY MEMBER

Some people don’t just work for an organization—they become part of its history, culture, and heart.

Meet Maximus Lyamwaka, affectionately known by many as Mzee Max, one of TAMA’s longest-serving staff members. Since joining TAMA in 2008, Mzee Max has faithfully served as an Office Attendant, dedicating more than 17 years to the organization.

Through the years, his hard work, commitment, reliability, and infectious smile have made him a familiar and much-loved face at TAMA. He is always ready to help, always willing to go the extra mile, and his presence brings warmth and positivity to the workplace.

His work may often happen behind the scenes, but his contribution is an important part of what keeps TAMA moving every day.

Mzee Max reminds us that impact is not always measured by a title. Sometimes, it is found in consistency, humility, dedication, and the way you make people feel. ❤️

Today, we celebrate Mzee Max—not only for his years of service, but for the person he has been throughout TAMA’s journey.

🕊️ TAMA MOURNS A DISTINGUISHED MIDWIFERY LEADER 🇱🇷💙

TAMA joins the global midwifery community in mourning the passing of Madam Marian M. Tucker Boimah, President of the Liberia Midwives Association (LMA), who passed away on 17 August 2026.

Madam Boimah dedicated her life to advancing the midwifery profession and improving maternal and child health in Liberia. Her leadership, service, and commitment to midwives will be remembered with deep respect.

Our heartfelt condolences go to the Liberia Midwives Association, her colleagues, family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

🌍💙 LEARNING. CONNECTION. INNOVATION. ACTION.

When midwives come together, ideas become action—and better care becomes possible.

On 14–15 August 2026, TAMA conducted a learning and partnership visit to WAJAMAMA in Zanzibar to exchange experiences, learn from innovative approaches, and explore opportunities to strengthen midwifery care.

📍 A key highlight was Kajengwa Health Centre, where we observed the Group Care Model (GCM)—bringing pregnant women together for antenatal care, health education, counselling, peer support, wellness activities, and active participation in their own care.

We were inspired by the model’s focus on:

🤝 Peer-to-peer learning and support
💙 Respectful, woman-centred maternity care
🧠 Mental health and emotional wellbeing
👩🏾‍⚕️ Mentorship and capacity building for healthcare providers
🌱 Community engagement and innovative maternal care

But this visit was about more than learning a model.

It was about building bridges for the future of midwifery. 🌍

The discussions opened exciting opportunities for TAMA– WAJAMAMA ZANZIBAR Nafisa Jiddawi collaboration, including joint advocacy, mentorship, knowledge exchange, capacity building through the Safe Delivery App by Maternity Foundation and strengthening midwifery education and practice across Tanzania, with a particular focus on Zanzibar.

We are grateful to WAJAMAMA ZANZIBAR Nafisa Jiddawi for the warm welcome, knowledge shared, and spirit of partnership. 💙

We returned with new ideas, stronger connections, and a shared commitment to turn learning into meaningful action.

Because when women are empowered, communities are stronger.
When midwives learn from one another, care becomes stronger.
And when we work together, lasting change becomes possible. 🌱

📸 WEEKEND THROWBACK 🇹🇿💙

What happens when you invest in the people who train the people who save lives? 👩🏾‍⚕️

You create a ripple effect that reaches far beyond one training room.

From 15–20 June 2026, TAMA, together with the Wizara Ya Afya and Canadian Association of Midwives brought healthcare professionals together in Dar es Salaam for a 6-days Training of Trainers for Clinical Instructors.

🔥 This was more than a training. It was an investment in the future of healthcare.

Through simulations, bedside teaching, demonstrations, role plays and microteaching, participants strengthened their skills in teaching, mentoring, clinical supervision and assessment.

🚀 And now, they take those skills back to their institutions—to train more educators, support more students and strengthen the health workforce across Tanzania. 🇹🇿

It is with profound sadness that the Tanzania Association of Midwives (TAMA) announces the passing of our beloved member, Anitha Ndauka, from Ilembula, Njombe.

Anitha was not just a midwife and a colleague — she was part of our TAMA family. Her journey may have ended, but the lives she touched, the care she gave, and the memories she leaves behind will remain forever. 🕊️💔

To her family, friends, colleagues, and the entire midwifery community, we mourn with you and stand with you in this difficult time.

May God grant her eternal rest and comfort everyone who loved her.

Another milestone for stronger midwifery care in Tanzania! 💙🇹🇿

After 6 days of learning, skills-building and hands-on practice, 21 midwives from health facilities across Dar es Salaam have successfully completed the Clinical Instruction & Preceptors Training.

The training was officially closed by Mr. Saturini Manangwa, Assistant Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services, Ministry of Health, recognizing the commitment of these midwives to becoming stronger clinical educators and mentors for the next generation.
