Our Mobile Outreach Team from Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa (The Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa) continues to bring essential health services closer to communities, setting up a camp at Mtomondoni Primary School grounds in Mtwapa Sub-County, Kilifi County in Coastal Kenya.

At the camp, more than 2,000 people have been reached with cancer awareness and screening services. Women have accessed cervical and breast cancer screening, while girls have received the HPV vaccine.

These services are being provided free of charge through the East Africa Comprehensive Women’s Cancer Project (EA-CwCP), as part of ongoing efforts to ensure that cancer prevention and screening services reach people where they live.

Our East Africa Comprehensive Women’s Cancer Project (EACwCP) team at Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu (Erick Owino) convened a multisectoral forum to explore how gender norms influence health-seeking behaviour and household decision-making.

The forum brought together a diverse group of stakeholders from Kisumu and Homabay counties, including cancer specialists, nurses, county health officials, gender experts, journalists, religious leaders, civil society representatives, community focal persons, and government administrators.

Participants identified key barriers affecting access to cancer screening and treatment, including financial vulnerability, gender-based violence, stigma, and the need for stronger support systems within families and communities.

Addressing these challenges through collaborative, gender-responsive approaches is essential to improving access to timely cancer prevention, screening, and treatment services.

Wiki hii, timu yetu ya huduma za mkoba kutoka Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania kupitia mradi wa East Africa Comprehensive Women Cancer Project (EA-CwCP), imeweka kambi katika Jiji la Arusha kwa mwaliko wa Ofisi ya Mbunge, Arusha Mjini - Mhe. Paul Makonda na Ofisi ya Mganga Mkuu wa Mkoa wa Arusha, kutoa huduma za uchunguzi wa saratani ya mlango wa kizazi na saratani ya matiti.

Tunakukaribisha kuanzia leo hadi tarehe 18 Julai 2026 katika Viwanja vya Sheikh Amri Abeid, Arusha, kupata huduma hizi muhimu za uchunguzi wa mapema bila malipo.

In Mombasa, our East Africa Comprehensive Women’s Cancer Project (EACwCP) team from Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa (The Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa) partnered with the Nyeri County Health Management Team to deliver more than 3,000 HPV vaccines to girls, protecting them against cervical cancer.

Over a five-day campaign across schools in Nyeri County, Kenya, girls aged 9–14 years received the HPV vaccine. The campaign also included health education sessions for parents, guardians, and teachers, highlighting the importance of HPV vaccination in preventing cervical cancer later in life.

East Africa Comprehensive Women’s Cancer Project (EACwCP) is a regional initiative bringing HPV vaccination, cervical and breast cancer screening services closer to communities across Kenya and Tanzania, with support from AFD_France, Gates Foundation, and Aga Khan Foundation.

Aga Khan Health Services, East Africa (The Aga Khan Hospital, DSM, Erick Owino, and The Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa) is the lead implementing partner, working alongside Aga Khan University, Aga Khan Foundation, and Institut Curie.

Yesterday, Aga Khan Health Service, East Africa Regional Executive Director, Zeenat Sulaiman, together with the East Africa Comprehensive Women Cancer Project (EA-CwCP) Project Lead, Dr. Sarah Maongezi, visited a community sensitization meeting in Sengerema District, Mwanza.

The visit provided an opportunity to witness firsthand how Community Health Workers are engaging community members through meaningful discussions on women’s cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of seeking timely screening services.

Aga Khan Foundation is championing the training and recruitment of Community Health Workers for the East Africa Comprehensive Women’s Cancer Project (EACwCP) project in Tanzania, strengthening community-based health systems and empowering local champions to promote awareness, encourage early detection, and connect communities to essential health services.
