Strengthening Changemaker’s Mass Media Intervention through collaborative efforts between the Tanzania team and the Work Package 07 (WP07) Team.

One of the most compelling components of Changemaker is the Mass Media Intervention, designed to amplify the impact of ongoing project activities, including health modules, motivational strategies, physical activity, and urban gardening.

To ensure this goal is effectively realized, the WP07 team, which leads the mass media intervention, works closely with all Changemaker country teams, fostering continuous collaboration, alignment, and shared learning across sites.

Through these engagements, each country is supported to adapt the intervention to its local realities while staying on track toward achieving meaningful and impactful results.

Being part of the Changemaker journey means learning, sharing, and shaping what works across contexts.

At the Healthy Diets for Africa (HD4A) Mid-Term Evaluation, the Kenyan team presented Changemaker’s work from co-design to evaluation, alongside other projects advancing nutrition and health across Africa.

With around 40 participants from Africa and Europe, the session created space for exchange and cross-learning.

More than a presentation, it was about connecting, learning, and contributing to a shared vision for healthier diets in Africa.

The Changemaker team at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) trained sixteen Research Assistants who successfully completed a five-day capacity-building program held from 2–9 February 2026 in preparation for baseline data collection under the Changemaker Project.

The training combined interactive learning sessions, mock interviews, and hands-on practice using diverse digital and non-invasive research tools, enabling participants to strengthen their competencies in ethical, accurate, and youth-friendly data collection.

The training concluded with a pilot of the study followed by final logistical preparations—marking a significant milestone toward generating high-quality evidence to inform adolescent health promotion and non-communicable disease (NCD) prevention efforts.

The Changemaker Project participated in a dissemination event held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, from 21–23 January 2026, bringing together researchers and stakeholders to share insights from collaborative research on climate change, nutrition, and health.

The event highlighted the progress of Changemaker’s co-designed interventions promoting sustainable health among adolescents in urban Burkina Faso, Kenya, and Tanzania, while strengthening dialogue between researchers, policymakers, and communities on translating research into practice.

Last Thursday, members of the Changemaker Consortium hosted a half-day conference at Karolinska Institutet on “Spotlighting Adolescent Co-Design.” Participants and speakers joined both online and in person from Sweden to Finland to Tanzania and more to share dilemmas, mitigation strategies, and trade-offs in co-design work.

Key themes that emerged were the importance of transparency in co-design projects and respecting adolescents as true partners in the process. Changemaker’s own Innocent Yusufu presented on adolescent participation with hierarchical structures within the Changemaker co-design.

Adolescents participated in a co-design workshop on motivational health strategies, facilitated by the Technical University of Kenya

Through interactive discussions and group-based activities, young people shared what motivates them, the barriers they face, and the importance of peer support and active listening.

These youth-driven insights are shaping the Changemaker project’s approach to promoting healthy behaviours that are practical, relevant, and context-specific.

Changemaker Baseline Survey

November 2025, our Changemaker team in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso conducted baseline data collection across four schools, engaging students to understand their knowledge and practices around urban gardening, nutrition, sustainable health, waste management, physical activity, and environmental protection, before the interventions begin.

With trained research assistants, strong school collaboration, and ethical, youth-centered approaches, this baseline sets the foundation for evidence-driven action.
