RDTC Mid-Term Advisory Board Evaluation Meeting | 3 July 2026

Today, the RDTC successfully held its Mid-Term Advisory Board Evaluation Meeting, chaired by Prof. Gileard Masenga, Executive Director of KCMC and Secretary of the Good Samaritan Foundation (GSF).

The Board reviewed nine key agenda items arising from the January 2026 Advisory Board Meeting to assess progress on their implementation. We are pleased to report that 80% of the agreed action points have been successfully implemented, reflecting the dedication and commitment of our Advisory Board members and partners.

The productive discussions reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to strengthening RDTC’s strategic direction, promoting accountability, and ensuring the effective implementation of its resolutions.

The Chairperson of the Board sincerely thanked all Advisory Board members for their valuable contributions, continued guidance, and unwavering support in advancing the mission of the RDTC.

Today, the RDTC Advisory Board convened for its Mid-Term Evaluation Meeting to review key milestones and discuss the next phase of growth. From the journey towards becoming a WHO Collaborating Centre for Skin NTDs, to expanding dermatology education, strengthening regional collaborations, and supporting local sunscreen production, every agenda item reflected our commitment to advancing dermatologic care in Tanzania and across Africa.

Progress is measured not only by what has been achieved, but by the vision that continues to drive us forward. 🌍✨.

As many as 1 in 5000 people in Sub Saharan Africa and 1 in 20000 people in Europe and North America live with albinism.
For people living with albinism, the sun can pose a daily threat. In regions with intense UV exposure, skin cancer remains a major health concern, making awareness, prevention, and timely care more important than ever.

At Regional Dermatology Training Center we marked this year’s commemoration by taking action beyond the celebration. Through our outreach activities at Uhuru Park, our team has been engaging with the community, providing skin health education, raising awareness on skin cancer prevention, and delivering essential dermatologic care to persons with albinism.

Today, we joined the global community in celebrating International Albinism Awareness Day and reaffirming our commitment to promoting the health and inclusion of persons with albinism.

Skin cancer in persons with albinism is preventable, yet many individuals continue to face barriers that put them at increased risk. This day serves as an important reminder that raising awareness, advocating for equitable healthcare, and empowering communities remain essential in changing lives.

We were honored to participate in the regional commemoration led by the Regional Commissioner of Kilimanjaro Hon.Nurdin Babu alongside partners, advocates, and members of the albinism community united by a shared vision of a healthier and more inclusive future.

☀️Skin cancer in persons with albinism is preventable and early detection saves lives.

This International Albinism Awareness Day, we celebrate resilience, raise awareness, and promote skin health for persons with albinism.

At the Regional Dermatology Training Center , we are committed to improving the quality of life of people with albinism through:
🔎 Regular skin cancer screening
🩺 Early diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions
🧴 Provision of sunscreen
📚 Education on sun protection and skin health

We were honored to commemorate this special day alongside the Executive Director of KCMC, Prof. Gileard Masenga, whose presence underscored the importance of promoting health, inclusion, and equitable access to care for persons with albinism.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Tanzanian Albinism Society for providing essential supplies to patients in the Pediatric, Dermatology and Oncology wards, bringing comfort and support to those receiving care.

As part of this commitment, we are conducting a FREE skin screening outreach at Uhuru Park from Thursday through Saturday this week. We welcome all persons with albinism and their families to visit our team for screening, education, and support.
