Well…sometimes! — but it really depends on where I am and who I’m with. Like, if I’m playing with a colorful palette at home, listening to music and sitting on my bedroom floor, and I do a bright, shimmery blue-green eye, and then step outside to get some fresh air and El Hub or my neighbor sees me, they don’t even bat an eye anymore because they’re so used to seeing me in various states of crazy makeup, so I don’t feel silly at all around the house.

Or if I’m out someplace where I’m surrounded by other people of all ages wearing dramatic makeup, like at a MAC or a Sephora, then I don’t feel out of place, but…if I am someplace where everyone else is wearing low-key neutrals or (GASP!) no eye makeup at all, then yeah, I’ll feel a little silly rollin’ up in a blown-out reddish bronze smoky eye.

It wasn’t always this way, though. When I was in my 30s, I never felt silly because of my makeup, no matter what.

But everything changes, right? My makeup style is evolving, and that’s cool too. But there is still (and always will be) a part of me that loves colorful rainbow eyes.

Are you ready for 14 Days of Ravishing Red? Stay tuned as we explore ravishing red 💄 lipsticks, lip liners and glosses every day on our way to 💕 Valentine’s.

There’s absolutely nothing shy or coy about a fiery, orangey red, especially one that’s as opaque and matte as Tom Ford Cristiano. I think it has a little bit of a vintage vibe to it, yeah? Like Betty Draper would’ve gone MAD HARD on this lippie back in the day.

I’ve noticed that orangey red lipsticks, particularly matte ones like Cristiano, look extra vibrant when you wear them with a navy blue or denim top. I don’t always coordinate my makeup and my clothing, but if a bold statement orangey red is involved, I’ll grab a blue dress or shirt when I’m getting dressed in the morning.

I think it’s that whole color theory thing… Blue and orange are on opposite sides of the color wheel, so they’re considered complementary colors. Maybe that’s why a warm orangey red and a cool blue just totally WORKS.

I also like pairing warm orangey red lips like these with bronze eyeshadow and/or eyeliner, which I’m wearing in the top pic.

Saw this on my feed this morning, and it hit a little too close to home, LOL!

As Fox Mulder famously said, “The truth is out there…” I agree, and I think that someday the truth will finally be revealed about whether some Starbucks baristas purposefully muck up your name. 😒

Extra points for creativity to the young man who spelled my name exactly like this luxury French fragrance house: Caron Paris.

Thanks to my friend Joey for pointing this out!

I’d never heard of Caron Paris before Joey mentioned it, and now I have yet another place to add to my long list of places I’d like to shop when I go back to Paris (whenever that may be!).

Caron has been making high-end perfumes (both for women and men) and makeup since 1904, and they have three boutiques in the most fashionable neighborhoods in Paris.

The other day I asked you what makeup you’d pick to wear if you could only wear “just one thing.” I picked mascara, mostly because I had a hunch that for me it would make the overall biggest impact on my look and give the most bang for my buck, since it has the whole eye-widening effect thang.

I’ve been thinking about my answer since then, though… I’ve been wondering what it would really look like to wear just one piece of makeup, because really, when does one ever wear “just one piece of makeup?” It’s usually all or nothing for me, but still…what would it look like? Would it look like I forgot to do a few steps before leaving the house? Like something is missing?

I decided to do a quick test! In each of these shots, I’m only wearing one piece of makeup.

First up, two coats of mascara (the top pic) and nothing else. I would definitely feel comfortable wearing just mascara because it doesn’t feel like anything is “missing” to me.

Next up, concealer.

Yup, just concealer. Nothing else!

I’m wearing it here underneath my eyes, around my nose and on my cheeks, and while I like that my skin looks more even, I feel like I look like I forgot to put on lipstick and blush, ha ha!

What skin tone do you suppose this bronzed Hello Kitty charm is according to MAC? I want to say she looks like an NC42, but I’m kind of biased that way. 😉

Happy Caturday, señorita!

Wow, it just occurred to me that the Christmas countdown is officially ON. It’s getting close! El Hub and I mentioned getting our tree this weekend, so I think we’re going to do that.

This will be Rosie’s first Christmas with us, and I’m not sure how she’ll react to having a conifer smack dab in the middle of the living room. Will she attack it from afar and climb the trunk? Will she stealthily tip it over while my back is turned? I guess we’ll find out!

You know how it is with cats… It’s always an adventure. 😼

On that note…

May the fierce be with you, because Pat McGrath’s releasing a new Star Wars-themed LE makeup collection. 😃

These squishy kitty paw makeup brushes are purr-fect for cat ladies who love ‘ze face paint.

Did you know that there are two classifications of wrinkles — static and dynamic?

For the first time, scientists at IBM Research have demonstrated reliably storing 3 bits of data per cell using a relatively new memory technology known as phase-change memory (PCM). In this photo, the experimental multi-bit PCM chip used by IBM scientists is connected to a standard integrated circuit board. The chip consists of a 2 × 2 Mcell array with a 4- bank interleaved architecture. The memory array size is 2 × 1000 μm × 800 μm. The PCM cells are based on doped-chalcogenide alloy and were integrated into the prototype chip serving as a characterization vehicle in 90 nm CMOS baseline technology.

Cats Domesticated Themselves, Ancient DNA Shows

In true feline form, cats took their time deciding whether to jump into humans’ laps.

In a new comprehensive study of the spread of domesticated cats, DNA analysis suggests that cats lived for thousands of years alongside humans before they were domesticated. During that time, their genes have changed little from those of wildcats, apart from picking up one recent tweak: the distinctive stripes and dots of the tabby cat.

Researchers surveyed the DNA of more than 200 cats spanning the last 9,000 years, including ancient Romanian cat remains, Egyptian cat mummies, and modern African wildcat specimens. Two major cat lineages contributed to the domestic feline we know today, they report in a study published Monday in Nature Ecology & Evolution.

Impressive artwork.

Dr. Greg Dunn (artist and neuroscientist) and Dr. Brian Edwards (artist and applied physicist) created Self Reflected to elucidate the nature of human consciousness, bridging the connection between the mysterious three pound macroscopic brain and the microscopic behavior of neurons. Self Reflected offers an unprecedented insight of the brain into itself, revealing through a technique called reflective microetching the enormous scope of beautiful and delicately balanced neural choreographies designed to reflect what is occurring in our own minds as we observe this work of art. Self Reflected was created to remind us that the most marvelous machine in the known universe is at the core of our being and is the root of our shared humanity.

Tabs: “Don’t you do it. Don’t cry.”

Me: *sniffs* “But what if this is our last photo shoot together?”

Tabs: “Then you should probably wear Chanel. It’s the right thing to do.”

Me: “I’m really trying not to cry but…”

Tabs: “No buts, lady. Think about all of the pics we’ve taken together over the years. How many have there been? Thousands? Tens of thousands? Think about how lucky we’ve — no, how lucky you’ve been to have me in all those pics, because, quite frankly, your poses are hella boring. You’re kind of a hot mess…”

Me: “Oh, man. I’m gonna miss you so much.”

Tabs: “Will you promise me something?”

Me: “Anything.”

Tabs: “Promise me you won’t let grief consume you. Because I know you. I KNOW YOU. And you can’t let that happen. Under any circumstances.”

Me: “I can’t guarantee that, my love.”

Tabs: “You’re going to have to be brave. When I’m gone, you’re going to get out of bed in the morning, comb your fur, get out of your pajamas, and maybe put on a little makeup.

First of all, happy International Women’s Day from me and the Coywolf! Here are a few inspiring stories of women making a difference in our world today.

Much less interestingly, all of the awesome Revlon black hair elastics I started using a while back have disappeared into the mysterious black hole located inside my house, so I went to Target to replace them and found these…

SERIOUSLY! They’re huge. I don’t know if they’ll be able to handle my mane, but we shall see. Side note: I wonder what Jason Momoa thinks of them, ha ha ha!

Lastly, I desperately need to paint my nails! Having my nails done always makes me feel like I’ve got my sh*t together and makes the world around me seem less chaotic. (Am I the only one?) Gonna try out this new brand by Sally Hansen called Mega Strength.

How are you (and your nails) doing on this beautiful Friday? What’s new?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. TGIF! 😄
