The Palliative Care Association of Uganda [PCAU] Quarterly National Palliative Care update meetings are Continuous Professional Development (CPD) sessions aimed at building and strengthening the capacity of Palliative Care providers and other stakeholders by equipping them with knowledge on topical issues of discussion for improved service delivery

In partnership with the Uganda Heart Institute Our CME on Early Palliative Care in Chronic Heart Disease: A Patient-Centred Approach Beyond End-Stage Care will provide an opportunity for healthcare professionals, policymakers, and other stakeholders to share evidence, practical approaches and health-systems considerations for integrating palliative care into routine chronic heart disease services, with the goal of improving the quality of care for patients and their families.

On , we honour health workers who have given their lives in the service of others, and those who continue to provide care in the most challenging circumstances affected by conflict and crises.

This year's theme reminds us of the families and communities left behind by fallen humanitarians. Their stories remind us of the human cost of serving others and the responsibility we all share to protect those who provide care.

This is the spirit of Ubuntu: “I am because we are.” Our humanity is strengthened when we care for one another, stand together in times of suffering, and protect those who serve and support others.
reminds us: when we protect those who care, we protect our shared humanity.

Protecting health care means protecting health workers, patients, caregivers, health facilities and the essential services that sustain communities.

⚡ As PCAU, we call for greater respect and protection of health care and humanitarian workers, so they can fulfil their duty of care safely and without fear.

This week we hosted the Morphine Partners Meeting at PCAU bringing together key partners to strengthen access to oral liquid morphine for patients experiencing moderate to severe pain.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Martha Ajulong Commissioner for Pharmaceutical Services at the Ministry of Health - Uganda and brought together representatives from the Ministry of Health - Uganda , Palliative Care Association of Uganda [PCAU], Hospice Africa Uganda, National medical stores, Uganda National Drug Authority, Joint Medical Store, Uganda Cancer Institute, Kiruddu National Referral Hospital, and other partners.

Discussions focused on strengthening the entire morphine supply chain right from production and procurement to distribution, prescribing, reporting, and patient use.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of strong coordination, reliable data, effective monitoring, and sustained commitment from all partners to address challenges across the morphine supply chain, including stockouts, gaps in forecasting and ordering, and reporting and distribution challenges.

We remain committed to ensuring that essential medicines such as oral liquid morphine are available, accessible, and used safely and appropriately by those who need them.
