It is with a very heavy heart we share that three of our colleagues, Pilot Butch Alleman, Flight Nurse Bethany Aicken and Flight Paramedic James Welsh lost their lives in an air accident on the afternoon of October 7. Please continue to hold all of their families in your hearts. Butch, Bethany and James, we miss you so much. We’ll take it from here.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and coworkers of our Air Evac 133 base.

Air Evac Lifeteam is heartbroken to share that three crew members from AEL base 133 perished in a helicopter accident in Owenton, Kentucky today.

We were informed of the accident by local law enforcement shortly after it occurred. The crew is based out of Grant County, Kentucky and were on their way to a scene to pick up a patient when the accident happened. This was a terribly tragic accident, and our deepest sympathies go out to the employees’ families and friends.

Our primary focus now is on supporting the families who were impacted as well as our team members. Critical incident stress management teams have been sent to assist our team members during this difficult time.

At this time, we are not releasing the names of the crew members on board the flight. We kindly request respect for the privacy of our team members and their families in this difficult time. AEL will work closely with the FAA and NTSB during the investigation.

All of us at 63 are proud of Virgil Martin for getting Pilot of the Year for Air-Evac at the yearly company awards. We are very fortunate to have him at our base. His exceptional attitude, professionalism and cooking are some of the many attributes that makes him a great person to work with. Not only does Virgil fly full time at 63 and picks up at sister bases, he also has many roles including the base safety rep, Peer support group, and Membership rep. We are very blessed to have Virgil.
